  1. Storage Spaces error 0x00000057 on Windows version 2004...

Every single time I try creating a Storage Space in Windows, I get error 0x00000057, saying my drives are in use. This is impossible, and I'll tell you why. All three drives are unformatted, they contain no data, and I've used the PowerShell command Reset-PhysicalDisk on all three to make absolute 100% sure they aren't doing anything. It is, 100% without a doubt impossible for any of these three drives to be in use.

I've found out how to create a Storage Pool in PowerShell, and that works just fine, all three of them, a 3TB 2.7 TiB and two 1TB .9 TiB drives, combine into a 5TB 4.54 TiB pool just fine. Making a virtual drive out of them, does not. The virtual drive created, is 2.7 TiB, even when using simple redundancy, with the "max size" argument. I can go ABOVE the given max size, until I hit the actual size of the pool, which I can't see in bytes, so I'd have to approximate and waste storage space, or actually figure out, byte by byte, how high I can go.

Because I don't have multiple days of time to spend messing with virtual disks in PowerShell, byte by actual byte, and I'm not keen on wasting storage I paid for, I tried creating a virtual disk in the Storage Spaces UI out of my pool, and got the same error as before. The GUI actually detects all 4.54 TiB that's usable, but since I get error 0x00000057 off that, I'm stuck.

From what my research has gleaned, this was an issue caused by a bug during a Windows Insider build, and I have to ask if this bug resurfaced this update. I've tried spanned volumes, which only create 2.7TiB virtual drives. Since spanned volumes just got depreciated, even if that did work, it's obviously not the best solution, and figuring out how to make Storage Spaces work is a better option.

I've tried contacting support and got told to run troubleshooters and DISM/SFC, which did literally nothing.

    :)

    Error using storage spaces/mirror

    I upgraded from W8.1 to W10.
After the upgrade my mirrored volume was 'gone' (created with disk management). Fortunately I was able to restore the data on one of the disks.

I cannot manage to recreate a mirror on Windows 10.
I tried using disk management as well as Storage Spaces but I get errors when the formatting begins.

Even with new disks, all the same it does not seem to work. I can not figure out why...

I get: Cannot remove Storage Space (huh.. remove?? I am creating one!!).... Parameter is wrong: 0x00000057.

Could there be some history of the previous mirrored drive which is preventing me from creating a new one or should I just do a clean Windows 10 installation?

Unfortunately, following your suggested procedure it appears the Storage Spaces parity error persists.

    Error using storage spaces/mirror

Try doing it with Macrium Reflect instead of the default mirroring, provides better backup and compresses more
