Windows 10: Verifying my second email for my account not working

When trying to verify my second email account I get this message.


"You email address wasn't verified

This email address couldn't be verified because the wrong Microsoft account may have been entered. Try signing in with another Microsoft account."


My goal is to take the primary email of one Microsoft account that I own, replace it with a newer email, and move that old email to a different Microsoft account and make it the primary email\alias.


Now I have 2 Microsoft accounts, The first 1# was created for xbox live, I at some point later created a second 2# Microsoft account that I use for Skype and business. I was young when I created these and did not realize that when I made my Xbox live account I essentially also made a Microsoft account.


The email used to create account 1# was an old email, call it email X#, that I don't use ever, I used a newer email, email Y# to create account 2#. I have now recently created a third email for business, email Z#. Email Y# has now become my gaming and entertainment email so I want all my game accounts attached to it. So I want to make email Y# the primary email for account 1#, an email X# the secondary email to account 1#. Then make Email Z# the primary email for account 2# and have a fourth back up email as a secondary encase something happens to Email Z#.

I was able to get all the emails that I wanted attached to account 2# and removed Email Y# from the account. The issue arised when I tried to verify email Y# on account 1# I would get sent the verification email but I would be met with the message quoted up above when I clicked the verify link. I don't know why this is happening. I was wondering if it had anything to do with email Y# at one point being a primary to account 2# or email X# being created a really long time ago, almost 10 years, just for xbox live.


I would love any advice on how to solve this issue.

Hopefully my labels for the emails and accounts made this easier to read.

Can't Verify my account & changing email

Thank you for posting your concern in Microsoft Community and welcome to the Windows 10 Family.

If you are not receiving the verification code, you can try to verify your account through the online account validation process.



Please go to (Reset your password)
and follow the steps below:

• Enter your Microsoft account and type in the characters you'll see in the pictures and click on Next.
• Click "I can’t use any of these options".
• Enter a working email address where we can contact you and click on Next.
• Fill-up the form and click “Submit”.

In this method, you will be asked to provide a contact email where a link will be sent after you validated your account. I suggest that you provide a working email for you to receive the password reset link.

Also, to answer to your second question, please be informed that you cannot change the Windows Live Id of your Microsoft Account. However, you can add an alias email address to it. Follow the below steps.

• Sign in to the
  Manage your account aliases page.
• Select Add email alias .
• Follow the instructions to create a new Outlook.com email, or add any address that isn’t already a Microsoft account.

Also may I suggest you change email accounts to one of the following.....

Gmail
Outlook

The reason is they both use "Step two verification". This style of verification means even if a hacker gets your password they cannot log in to your account. You see every time someone try's to log in that hasn't been verified you will get a text or a phone call giving you a final code to log in. Its very easy and simple to setup also. The great thing is once you setup your Email application with a specific "application password" from that account you never have to log in again AND your account is protected from being logged in from foreign entities.

I like the new outlook personally however Gmail is also damn good. Gmail also has an IP tracker that allows you to see WHERE the account has been logged in from. Anyway let us know if you wanna change over and have any questions. We will be happy to help and welcome to TPU!

The two-step verification emails show up in my inbox but I added a rule to mark the domain name safe a long time ago (verified that "techpowerup.com" is still in the safe sender list).
