    USB devices aren't recognized

    Hi,

I recently bought a new computer.

Ever since I got it I couldn't use most of my USB devices. They don't get recognized.

The only things that work are my cheap, simple HP mouse and Keyboard. As well as my Wacom Intous3 tablet.

    Everything else doesn't work.

It has been like that from the start and after 2 month it's still unsolved.

All these devices work perfectly fine on all my other Windows 10 machines.

Even more strange is that some of the devices work if they are plugged in while booting.

If I unplug them in Windows and plug them back into the same or any other slots they don't get recognized anymore.

This is only the case for two hard drives though. The rest doesn't work at all, neither plugged in when booting or afterwards.

I have had the PC back where I bought it and they said they checked it and all the USB ports work fine.

    I have:

    - external HDD with power supply works when plugged in while booting- external HDD without power supply works when plugged in while booting- external HDD without power supply never works

    - USB stick never works

    - card reader never works

    - USB headset never works

My Monitor has USB plugs and a card reader and these don't work either.

    It's maddening.

    How is this possible?

I tried installing drivers which I have never had to do for any of these devices on any of my other machines and it made no difference either.

    The devices do receive power.

The HDDs spin, the lights light up etc.

But the Windows doesn't know anything is plugged in.

This computer cost me $2000 and it's completely useless in this state to me.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

    Thanks!

    :)

  3. USB Device Not Recognized (Malfunctioned)

Just had this problem recently, a cmos clear corrected it. One item you can check to see is if the bios recognizes anything by loading its "boot from" menu and checking for any USB mass storage listed.

Some USB Devices not recognized in Windows 10

Hi have Windows 10 Pro insider preview 10532 64bit Pro Intel i7 desktop PC.

I have multiple USB devices connected, USB 3 & 2. The USB HDD is working however my Samsung phone and kindle are no longer being recognized. The steps followed so far:

    • Uninstalled all USB devices in device manager including controllers
    • Flashed BIOS to latest version
    • Updated USB drivers for the devices from manufacturers sites
    • Tried new USB cables

Please note: both devices are recognized by my Windows 10 Lenovo laptop.

I really don't want to fresh install, please suggest any diagnostics I can try.

    Thanks
