How to password protect a PDF - don't want to use upload services - looking for 3rd party application? What have others found useful? So I have an existing PDF file that I wish to add a password so I can email. I know I can zip it and use a password, but I need to password protect the document. Any suggestions would be welcome. I can purchase third party software if necessary. I own Microsoft Office 2013 fwiws. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

OneDrive - Password protected PDF - comments and protection

    Hi

I regularly use Onedrive to read PDFs via the OneDrive Viewer, on both Android and IOS11 App's without issue. I often use the in-built highlighter and comments tools to annotate PDF's again without any issues.

However I have a PDF issued by a 3rd Party which is password protected to prevent all actions (copying text, photos, comments, highlight etc) with the exception of opening the file. i.e. I can open the PDF without a password and read it. I have opened
the file in Acrobat Reader DC, it confirms I cannot do anything except open and read the document.

When I use OneDrive viewer, it allows me to open this file, but also allow highlighting and comments etc, somehow side stepping the PDF protection. However when it comes to sync the file OneDrive then extends the password protection to also include opening
the file. As a 3rd party set this password I can not longer access the file or see any of my comments....

Is this a known bug, something is not right here?

Password (or PIN) Protecting 3rd Party App in Windows 10

Hi Pixelme ... great question, but unfortunately there is no way that Microsoft provides to password protect 3rd party apps.

The only thing I can suggest is find out from the 3rd party app if they have that capability. So for your example with Kindle, contact Kindle and see if there is a way.

It would be the 3rd party app that would develop that capability not Windows\Microsoft.

Now you can use bitlocker which encrypts your drive if you are concerned with data being compromised if your machine gets lost or stolen.

Password (or PIN) Protecting 3rd Party App in Windows 10

I'm using Windows 10 Pro with latest (1809) Release.

Does Microsoft provide it's Users with any means of Password Protecting or Locking 3rd Party Apps? This is a 'general question' not specific to any particular App, though - just at present - I'm trying to find a way to Password or PIN Protect my 'Kindle
For PC App' (great APP) which I downloaded direct from Amazon (not the Microsoft Store).

Can't find a method inside the actual 'Kindle For PC App' to Password or PIN protect it. This might be because my 'Physical' Kindle is not a particularly 'recent' Model, and that (maybe) the Password or PIN can only be initiated on 'more recent' Kindle Device,
then automatically 'carries-across' to the Kindle PC App, once Password / Pin set-up on the Physical Kindle.

Leaving Kindle aside, generally interested to know if there's a 'Microsoft' Method for Password or Pin Protecting 'any' App (plus if that 'method' only applies to Apps obtained through the Microsoft Store, or to 'all / any' 3rd Party Apps, irrespective of
    where they are obtained from).

Thanks in advance for any info.
