Windows 10: Windows 10 hijacks my computer. Failed updates shut it down for hours at random times.

I have tried many times to shut down automatic updates, but to no avail. Windows updates start by themselves and always fail. It takes about 20 minutes to update then 20 minutes to uninstall them after they fail. Then the computer works fine for a few days until the process starts over. I have no control over when this happens. Sometimes it will ask me to specify the time, but my input is ignored. Even if it happens overnight, I am still locked out of my computer for 20 minutes in the morning. Today I was watching a movie and it abruptly ended in the middle for "updates" I am in no position to try to edit the registry or go to other extreme measures to fix a problem that Microsoft created. I cannot afford to go buy a new CPU. Microsoft needs to fix this or buy me a new computer.

computer shutting down at random times

using windows 10.

my computer will shut down own it's own at random times. most of the time I have to turn off the power before I can reboot

these are the messages I cot this time it did it

stop code: page fault in non page area

what failed: win32kbase.sys

 

Windows Updates failed to instal

I just did step one and they have just all installed.... thank you so much.... it was quite frustrating having that update window pop up every 5 minutes and failing to instal every time

When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.
