Windows 10: Win 10 Upgrade not seeing external drives

    Win 10 Upgrade not seeing external drives


    Laptop is demanding I upgrade from 8.1 to 10. However it doesn't recognize two external drives that I attached, with each one having the available space required. Win 8.1 can see the drive in all other windows and apps. I can even run the upgrade shortcut from the external drives. The drives have the current drivers and all that.


    How can I have the Windows Upgrader notice the external hard drives?

    Win 10 and external solid state drive incompatable

    Since upgrade to Win-10 I can no longer backup files to external Hitachi and Western Dig. External drives. On two HP and Acer 64bit machines.

    deleted the old external usb drivers, rebooted, still won't recognize. Tried the win-10 backup software, but it doesn't recognize the drives are there.

    open to suggestion. Only assist I could see by Microsoft is info on Win7/8

    There are several factors that can cause your external drive to not read DVDs even though the system is recognizing the device. This could be caused by a driver that needs to updated or corrupted files. For us to resolve your concern, kindly answer the questions
    below:

    • Just to confirm, the device that is not working properly is a external DVD optical drive?
    • Were there any recent changes or updates installed on your computer?
    • Have you tried to plug the external drive to a different port on your computer?

    As a initial recommendation, we suggest that your run the built in troubleshooter in Windows 10. Kindly refer to the steps below:

    • Type “Troubleshooting” in the Search bar and press Enter.
    • Click on “View All” in the top left corner.
    • This will display the list of troubleshooters which are built-in in the computer. You can click on
      Hardware and Devices from the list and you can run the troubleshooter.

    This will check for common errors that affect hardware on your computer and attempts to correct them.

    Win 10 Upgrade not seeing external drives

    External hard drive not appearing on Win 10

    Just upgraded to Win 10 (Home Premium 64-bit) and suddenly my computer won't acknowledge my external LaCie Rugged hard drive. (I get the little diddy saying it's been connected, but it never appears.) My WD drive and my LaCie Porsche drive both still work,
    but not the Rugged (which still works on my Win 7 laptop). I really need access to this drive! Any suggestions??
