    CD drive makes a loud spinning noise whenever I insert a CD and won't read the disc


    Whenever I insert in a CD it makes this really loud jarring noise. Opening the CD drive while it makes that noise I can see the CD spinning really fast. Important note: none of the cds I am needing to put in are scratched or have any issues; it can play in my car just fine. The strange thing is, one of my cds is able to be read, and it doesn't make noise whenever I put it in. I just don't understand why the computer is selective in what it can read or not.

    CD/DVD Drive not reading discs

    My CD/DVD has stopped reading discs. The PC sees the drive but on inserting a disc nothing happens although the disc is spinning. This happened after resolving a start up problem.

    Have tried updating driver and am advised driver is up to date.

    Also device manager advises that "This device is working properly."

    Discs are read in other machines OK.

    My O/S is windows 7 64 bit. running on Dell Inspiron PC

    Have checked that cable plug ins are secure.

    Any suggestions on how to solve this problem Please.

    Hello!

    Since upgrading to Windows 10 my PC has been unable to read any CD/DVD disc I put in. I hear it spinning so I doubt there's any problem with the CD/DVD Drive itself.

    I was thinking it could be a driver issue, but there doesn't seem like there's any problems with it. (As usually there's a yellow ! mark if there seems to be a problem.)

    Does anyone have any ideas where the root of the problem could be? And if so, how to resolve the issue?

    Yes I hear the disc spin, and that zooming/moving sound when it's reading the disc. I had to open up my PC and have a look, but it seems to be a sony optiarc ad-5260s

    Yes it did originally come with the system. It worked perfectly fine until I upgraded to windows 10.
