I’ve been experiencing this weird issue since I upgraded to windows 10 2004 yesterday when you scan for hardware changes my whole pc becomes stuttery I.e stuttery mouse, extremely choppy sound and unplayable video, sluggish gui. By the looks of things it made it permanent even after hard reboot and reinstalling the OS .

I’ve noticed this when I was playing warhammer 2 total war and my system would just hang and shut off after 2 minutes of game time or even 3 hours. I’ve checked the event logs and it gets critical errors with driverframeworks-usermode and with HID-compliantheadset and critical kernel error event 41 in a couple of seconds after. I checked the device manager and tried to uninstall Hid-compliant headset in hopes to resolve it but the system would hang and wouldn’t let me to do it. So I instantly thought it was my Razer tournament edition V2 headset that was causing the issue. I uninstalled the drivers and software etc. but the issue would still persist. Then I disabled the HID-compliant headset instead of uninstalling it but the system hanged again so I hard rebooted. I’ve checked device manager and surprisingly it was functioning properly until I scanned it for hardware changes and everything started all over again.

Then I thought it was my OC ram and cpu so I restored my bios defaults and turned off AMD precision boost just in case but the issue would still persist. Swapped out the ram kit with my spare one but the issue would still persist. I hooked up bios debugger no issues with cpu or any other hardware. My PSU (Corsair Rm750) is only a couple of months old which shouldn’t be causing any issues. I’ve rechecked all of the cabling nothing. My both nvmes are functioning properly.

I’ve reinstalled windows 10 to 1903 and it worked perfectly fine with all drivers installed until I rebooted the pc for the second time and the same issue came back. So I reinstalled windows 10 again to 1903 and without installing the razer and AMD gpu drivers, disabling windows updates through Group policy and the issue is still there, however, it is more stable.

Cpu: Ryzen 5 3600 Motherboard: MSI gaming edge WiFi GPU: 5700xt PSU: Corsair RM750 RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000mhz 16gb
NVME: 1TB Crucial P1, 250gb Wester Digital (OS installed on here) Additional card: NVME raid controller card (not in use)

Any help or idea with this would be helpful !

Device Manager > Scan for hardware changes?

    Hello Paul, *Smile

"Scan for hardware changes" in Device Manager is basically just an option to refresh Device Manager to show any possible hardware changes (ex: connect or disconnect a device).

Device Manager > Scan for hardware changes?

Well, I think it's a very pompous way of saying "Refresh". *Biggrin
    Case closed. Thanks again.
