Windows 10: Windows 10 data recovery endless loop

Hi

So i got one lenovo laptop for data recovery, device specs are:

Intel celeron some omg wanna be cpu

2gb ram

32 emmc ssd



The user transfered files from his samsung mobile phone to desktop ( approx 5gb of data ).

The user was able to preview files and stuff so transfer was completed.

Windows version on the device was 1803.

After some period of time user could not preview files and the folder got an add-on on the icon of two blue arrows what means files are compressed automatically by system to free storage space, probably because windows was trying to update itself.

Version 1803 had file explorer bug with wrong calculation of folder size, so the situation now is:

System calculated size of that folder 11.2TB ( yes really nice).

You can't preview that files, can't transfer them because the folder is 11.2TB, you have pictures inside folder and just to have example system is saying that one .jpg is 5gb.



What i tried untill this moment:

I managed to clear some space on disk to update and i updated device to 1909 version, Booted live linux usb to see if the folder size calculation is different - still same, Disabled compression on folder but system is uncompressing like it's end of the world and he fills up C drive because he thinks he is uncompressing 11.2 TB of data.

I uncompressed one .jpg ( that system is saying it's 5gb) and it's still calculated 5gb after decompression, and you can't preview them of course, i even transfered that "test" file on my rig to see if anything changes but no luck.



Does anyone have any idea what could i do to save this data?

• Have you checked if the hard disk is set as first boot device in the BIOS?
• Which version of Windows is installed on the computer?
• What did the HP supported suggested you to fix the issue?

Data Recovery for Mac (OSX Capitan) ?

Anybody knows of a good data recovery software for mac? Preferably free?

I use Active@ Data Recovery for Windows, but honestly no idea what to use for Mac OSX.

Any suggestions?
