Windows 10: Game freezes, Render fails, Laptop shuts down, GPU disconnects and random VIDEO_DXGKRNL BSOD

I have been having lots of video-related issues ever since early April and I think it is after some Windows updates.

I have tried many ways to troubleshoot but I'm struggling to get it fixed. My Aftershock laptop is still under warranty but I need it to work from home. So I'm trying to avoid sending it in for servicing if it's possible to troubleshoot without downtime. The fans always go crazy before BSOD or sudden shutdown after either running games or trying to do some renders. When I'm running a game, the screen flickers and the game screen freezes but I can still hear the game is still running properly.


I have tried to reinstall the graphic driver using DDU, update to latest Windows updates, update to latest graphics drivers for both integrated and dedicated GPUs. Also, I tried to update all the other drivers to the latest using Snappy Driver Installer. I also ran tests using OCCT and GPUMemTest and they all turn out fine.


I also just realized that CCleaner has cleared away all the minidumps I had previously, I used it thinking it might help clear up clutter and solve the issues.

Random freezes or shut downs

Completely random freezing/shutdowns on a system with no recent hardware changes, and hard drive, memory, and PSU fine, usually means a software issue (file corruption or malicious software). I suggest following DavidV's recommendations.

After some research and failing to find any solution i`ve decided to find help, have a gaming laptop (don`t judge me) and it used to work pretty well, until the latest Witcher expansion, i would be gettting a DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION everytime i tried to start the game, some driver updates later and now i`m randomly getting the same BSOD so far i've tried.

• Updating GPU Driver.
• DDU the Drivers and do a clean install.
• running sfc/scannow

Unfortunately my internet time is limited and i couldn`t find any more steps.

Any help would be appreciatted, and sorry for the bad english.

 

Random BSOD while browsing internet


BitDefender is nothing special. mwac.sys causes BSODs anywhere.

In that very thread, the suggested action apparently worked.

The storage and network filters of any third party antivirus can cause BSODs. Neither MBAM nor BitDefender is any special. For a regular antivirus, it may be shifted to an alternative; but MBAM has no alternative. So a clean install of the said program is the most feasible first step.
As far as the first step is not failing, it is better to not think for the second step. Because the BSODs are not universal, failure at the first step is not universal; and success at the second step is also not universal.
That is why I posted that my suggestion may work, or may not. Let us see where it goes.
