Windows 10: Mega long boot up

    Mega long boot up


    Laptop will either, sit there with a blank screen for about 90 seconds before showing me the login screen, then logs in pretty quick. Or will get to the login screen pretty quick but then take a long time to actually log in.

    Was fine, starting up in a matter of seconds until I copied over my plex server media files, restarted it, it sat there with a black screen and the fans going for a few minutes so i held the power button down. Now, it takes forever to start up.

    I've since uninstalled plex and deleted those files, not that the existence of files on the drive should have any affect on the boot up time....

    How do I troubleshoot this? what is going on in between the HP logo and the spinning thing and it showing me the login screen? task manager tell me start up is 6seconds... (lies)

    Extremely long and incomplete boot

    This may be a long shot. My PC hung at boot yesterday after typing the password - see Can't Login - Further Troubleshooting Steps?

    I ran chkdsk c: /spotfix and all is now fine. Someone has also suggested running chkdsk c: /r.

    Mega long boot up

    laptop doesnt boot automatically

    This is what happened.

    1. Did a repair install and later disabled hibertnate in CMD.
    2. Enabled legacy option ROM in BIOS.
    3. After a few times startup ( i used the system in such mode for 5 days), changed boot option back to default.
    4. Vola!! It boots automatically to win10 without any keypress. Tested it with many starts to confirm the same.
    5. Re-enabled hibernate option using CMD and later selected Fast Startup.
    6. System booted normally, without the need for any keypress.

    I do not know exactly whether such steps resolved the problem or what else happened, hence cannot suggest above steps.

    Many thanks to all members who helped to troubleshoot problems.
