  1. Windows MAIL app bug report June 2020

My recent model windows 10 home PC downloaded updates over the last few weeks that must have involved Microsoft Mail, the desktop client for email. The UPDATE app in settings reports that I have no further updates to apply.

The ugly issue that has suddenly appeared is that for GMAIL accounts that are added into MAIL, attachments like .jpg photos and other files are not displayed along with the email message. Oddly PDF attachments and URLS in the body of the message make it through.

Some of the symptoms i see.. when an email is received from a gmail user or person with other email in my gmail account... What I see in Microsoft Mail is the little dots streaming along the top of the email message from left to right for a few seconds possibly as long as 30 seconds and then nothing further other than the body of the message and no attachments. On some restarts of Mail when I access the first email I see a blue line that says something liked "Download file attachments and photos?" within the message I am reading... yet when I try to click on it in an attempt to acknowledge it... it cannot be accessed.

If I check MAILS Manage Accounts it says that Download attachments is checked for my gmail account.

-Trying to reset the app from the Settings-applications window does not work... all my settings seem to be remembered... case in point is when i restart email it still knows my login id and password... how can this be if all my settings were deleted as the SETTINGS window claims?

Deleting the MAIL and Calendar APP and reinstalling also has no effect on the problem, neither does logging out of the account or rebooting the computer.

To make sure I am sane.. Logging into gmail using a browser proves the emails are there and have photo attachments or file attachments.

How can I restore MAIL to how it worked previously?? I can live without the latest updates if that is what is causing this.

    Many thanks.

    Ed

Mail app will not open on 10041.

    Hello Adam,

This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it. Windows MAIL app bug report June 2020 :)

In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

    • Open powershell as administrator
    • Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
    • Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)

    Hey Shawn,
I did that to no avail, then I ran WSReset.exe; now I'm good on all 3, Mail, Calendar and People! *Confused

    Cannot open mail app settings

OK, my next suggestion was going to be uninstalling Mail and Calendar and reinstalling from the Windows Store. You can have a go at this by following these steps.

    1. Open the Start menu, type Windows PowerShell.
    2. Right click on the Windows PowerShell and select Run as administrator.
    3. Enter the below command to remove the Mail and calendar app.

    get-appxpackage *microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps* | remove-appxpackage

After performing the above steps, install the Mail and calendar app from the Windows Store.

Hope this helps, you will, of course, have to add you accounts back again.
