Windows 10: External CD Drive and Old Games

Hey everyone, I've been trying to find a fix for my issues for several weeks now, but unfortunately haven't found something that fits my specific issue. It honestly might even just be game specific tbh which makes it even harder. But anyways, I recently had nostalgia to play an old NBA game (NBA Live 06 to be specific). I bought an external CD drive, popped in both discs (its a 2 disc game to install), and installed everything. No issues there. When I go to click on the game to start, the game boots up, waits a few seconds, then an error ops up saying to please insert the game disc. The obvious problem here is that the game disc is still in the external drive when I try to play the game. I've tried both discs but the error keeps popping up. I don't think it's the CD drive either because I tried a few different music CDs and they played without hitch. Plus, the game itself installs without any problems.

Before you say that I'm out of luck, here's the kicker. I've managed to get it started 2 separate times. But I don't know what I did to get the game to play. I've tried tons of potential "fixes" without any luck. Especially because I have yet to find even an explanation as to why I would get a "please insert CD" error. The closest I found was for cracked games, but this is an actual physical disc.

If anyone out there has any tips for me, I'd love to try them. Thanks.

Copy Music From External CD drive onto computer , then onto a flash drive

If that's the case, we suggest uninstalling your external CD driver thru device manager. Here's how:

• Unplug your external CD drive.
• Go to Device Manager > Locate your external CD drive > Right-click and select
  Properties > Look for the
  Driver tab > Select Uninstall Device.
• Restart your device.
• Plug-in your external drive.
• Check if you'll be able to copy your music files.

How to Download Music CD's from External Hard Drive to a Flash Drive on a Lap Top with Windows 10

To understand the issue better, let me know where exactly the Music is saved on? Is it on the CD's or External Hard drive?

Step 1:

If it is on the CD's, you may have to copy it the computer first and then copy it the Flash Drive. I suggest you to refer the article to know how to copy music from CD's to computer.

Step 2:

After copying the music to the computer, to move it to the Flash Drive Follow these steps.

• Select the required songs and
  right-click on it.
• Select copy.
• Go to the Flash drive and right-click on Free Space.
• Select Paste.

CD drive error

1) Close all open programs
2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Control
Class
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

UpperFilters
LowerFilters
UpperFilters.bak
LowerFilters.bak
5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor
7) Reboot your computer
8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

And it likely has something to do with the emulated drive you have listed there.
