    NTFS Permissions Issue

I have an internal drive that I want to restrict so that only administrators can access it. Previously in Windows 7 I've done this by giving the administrator group 'Full Control' and removing all other users/groups except the SYSTEM account.

However, when I've done the same thing in Windows 10 I can't view the contents of the drive. My user account is in the Administrators group, and I am able to still access the properties of the drive, change the security, etc. but I can't view the contents. The only way I can view the contents is to give my own user account permissions, but this defeats the object of what I'm trying to do.

I tried creating a new user group, adding my user account to it, then I gave that group 'Full Control' for the drive, but I still could not view the contents.

I've checked the ownership of the drive and my account is set as the owner.

I've tried running explorer as admin, but this made no difference.

I also tried copying the contents to another location, re-formatting the drive, then copying the contents back, but still no joy.

Am I missing something here and have the way permissions work changed in Windows 10? or is this more likely some kind of fault?

    Thanks

    :)

  2. xp ntfs permissions erased - help!

NEVER, ever, remove FULL CONTROL permissions in the Access Control Lists/rights priveleges from:

    • Administators Group
    • YOUR local Administrator User
    • SYSTEM
on NTFS rights on your disks (via Explorer.exe rightclick properties menu, security tab) that use that filesystem, OR in the REGISTRY either, via rightclick on HIVES/KEYS permissions popup menu options...

(Sure way to lock yourself out, period, & I have done it myself early on w/ NTFS filesystems &/or the Registry before... only way to learn sometimes, is making mistakes!)

    * Keep this in mind, those of you that start experimenting w/ security @ these 2 levels!

    APK

P.S.=> Leaving them @ FULL POWER, in both areas, usually 9/10 times allows you to get back into your rig (logging on as your LOCAL ADMINISTRATOR USER, to fix it), & make alterations to rights/acl's as needed, to "get it right", eventually... especially when you're still learning/experimenting! apk

    Permission issue

Presumably because TrustedInstaller is the owner (hence you need its permission), suggesting that img3.jpg was installed by Windows at some time.

Presumably that also means it can be uninstalled. How did you get it in the first place? Where is it located?

If you really want to delete it yourself, then taking ownership would seem a logical first step.
