  1. I want to switch from MBR (BIOS) to GPT (UEFI)

    Hello everyone,
I have Samsung EVO 860 SSD, I have Windows 10 and partition style is MBR, while my second HDD I bought few days ago is in GPT and his size is 2TB

The reason I want to switch my OS and my main SSD where the OS is located in general to GPT is that I heard it's better due to the some features such as the secure boot, faster boot, et cetera.

I'm here to ask for help, and to seek for a way to do it without having to completely re-install Windows and without data loss, if that's possible I would like to hear your opinions and suggestions.

    Kind regards!

    :)

  2. MBR to UEFI conversion

In addition to the good explanation that Greg provided, I would like to add a technical distinction:

The UEFI is akin to firmware while the MBR is a partitioning method. So you would compare the UEFI to the BIOS, and the MBR to the GPT. You wouldn't speak of converting MBR to UEFI.

I said that the UEFI is akin to firmware, because it's not really firmware. The BIOS really is firmware, because it resides on a chip on the motherboard. But the UEFI is programmable software that sits between the computer’s hardware and the operating
    system.

The only compelling reason to convert your hard drive from MBR to GPT is if you need to have more than 4 primary partitions on the drive. MBR is limited to 4 primary partitions. And then, since GPT can't be run from the BIOS, you would need to use the UEFI.

The UEFI has many technical improvements over the BIOS, to be sure, but considering the uncertainty inherent in converting old hardware, there isn't really a good reason to attempt converting from BIOS to UEFI other than the satisfaction in pulling off a
    complicated maneuver.

  3. GPT vs MBR for SSD OS Disk ? (win7 install)

You can use UEFI with MBR and GPT.

    Yes.

  4. I want to switch from MBR (BIOS) to GPT (UEFI)

How can I change from MBR to GPT and vice versa from GPT to MBR in Windows 10 Home

Usually, MBR and BIOS (MBR + BIOS), and GPT and UEFI (GPT + UEFI) go hand in hand. That's to say, if a Windows computer that uses UEFI, it will only support GPT. if your motherboard supports BIOS, go for MBR.

As for converting MBR to GPT and vice versa, you can enter Disk Management, and right click the disk to choose "Convert to GPT Disk" or "Convert to MBR Disk" to finish the conversion. BUT this method only supports convert an empty
disk (no volumes) to MBR or GPT. Deleting volumes/partitions on the disk will cause data loss. In order to convert disk between MBR and GPT without data loss, you need to first back up everything important, or turn to a 3rd party

    free MBR to GPT converter
, which allows you to directly convert a disk containing volumes/partitions to MBR or GPT.
