  1. Bad block causing crashes, but isn't detected by chkdsk

My computer keeps crashing, and when I looked into it, every time a crash occurs, an administrative event will appear, with source "disk" and description as "The device, \Device\Harddisk0\DR0, has a bad block." I pressume this is the cause of the crashes.

When I went to try to fix the bad block(s), chkdsk doesnt detect any problems.

I'm a bit lost on what to do to fix this problem, as everything I've found online seems to just focus on chkdsk... Any ideas on what I could try?

Detect bad sector at chkdsk after scan & repair

I believe Microsofts chkdsk checks if it is a bad black after marking it as one. So watch out as more might pop up and if that's the case you should of least backed up our info you want to keep in fact you should back up now just in case...

Next step would be to contact the manufacture of the HDD if in warranty for a possible replacement.

  3. Printer isn´t working after latest update.

After the latest update from Windows, my Canon Pixma ip6600 printer isnt working. In Device Manager it shows up as working properly but when I go to print it isn´t listed as an option in any programs. Troubleshoot suggests it´s a USB 2 printer on a USB
3 port and that that´s the problem but that cant be since it worked fine before the update. I´ve tried to uninstall and plug it back in but that doesn´t work either.

Bad block causing crashes, but isn't detected by chkdsk

Is there a way to block bad sectors on a HDD?

There are times in which you can cause harm by running chkdsk.
If you know the drive already has bad blocks the first step should be a backup image or backing up important files.
Once important files are backed up you can run chkdsk /r /v C:

There are multiple partitions on the disk drive.
For example: system, MSR, Windows, recovery
Bad blocks can occur in any partition.
Chkdsk is typically run on the Windows partition.

When making a backup image it's one additional method that tests the non-Windows partitions.
The backup image can fail with an error message or code.
It's also possible, if necessary to run chkdsk switches on the system partition.

Running chkdsk switches can take substantial time.
The size of the drive, %free, and problems found can all impact the run time.
