  1. How do I change security and maintenance settings in Windows 10

Hi will make this as short as possible, a month ago was given a gigabytes tablet pc as had major problems, I installed win 10 home and without realising it, it was version 1511 which though fixed many of my problems it created a few more.

After time I posted a question here and someone suggested that I download media creation tool and after a gruelling 4 hours it had almost finished when an error message came up in not so many words couldn't go any further.

I almost thru the thing out of 2nd story window. The problem was a compatibility issue and i was hoping a bios problem trouble there was couldn't get into the bios setup due to the you have to do it.

Press power on and volume up key to enter the bios. And there it was almost everything I needed to work was disabled.

So within a few hours it started to notify me of a multitude of updates. Which to my amazement Windows started to download on it's own. This was about six days ago and it hasn't stopped since. I did do one stupid thing and that was delayed the restart which when I finally did took nearly 8 hours to complete, My bad.

I have tried pausing updates but the problem with that is only pauses the installation and not the download. In win 7 could just tell it to ask before downloading, in 10 if this option exists I can't find it. All I can find and presume that is what I need is to change security and maintenance settings yet all the ones needed to halt the perpetual updates don't have that option. So please can anyone help me and sorry it did turn out to be a bit long.

So I'm running win 10 home, version 1903 os build 18362.836

    thanks

    :)

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand your concern and will assist you to resolve this issue.

I would suggest you to try the following methods and check if the issue persists.

Method 1: Windows has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with system. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your System
    Maintenance.

    Refer these steps:

    • Press Windows key +X, select Control panel.
    • Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons.
    • Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel.
    • Run the System Maintenance troubleshooter.

Method 2: Place your computer in clean boot state and check if it helps.

Putting your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. You need to follow the steps from the article mentioned below to perform a Clean Boot.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135
