  1. Windows 10 DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION error - Is my CPU fried?

Can a CPU at end-of-life cause the DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION error? How about a dying PSU?

This "Watchdog" error is so frustrating because from what I've read it could be caused by a multitude of issues. Many report it to be an SSD driver issue, but I'm pretty sure I've ruled that out.

    Background:

I built an AMD a10 7870k PC for my nephew, it was later updated with an RX570 graphics card. After 4 years of heavy use I get the system crashing consistently after about 2-3 minutes in the OS. Oddly enough Safe mode does not seem to crash.

I'm getting BSOD with "DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION" error. Here's what I have tried, in all cases the system crashes the same:

    • I reformatted my SSD, reinstalled windows.
    • Swapped the SSD for a HDD from a working machine.
    • Tried enabling the onboard graphics and removing the graphics card.
    • Tried disabling the onboard graphics and running on a dedicated graphics card.

I'm thinking at this point it is the CPU. It's safe to say the PC was run hard and only had stock cooler so it definitely ran hot. But it only lasted 4 years, which seems way too short of a lifespan. The PSU was also on the small side (430w Corsair) and so I'm not too confident in that either.

I'm assuming this is hardware related based on my tests, and only other potential sources of trouble that I haven't tested would be the RAM, PSU, or something to do with the motherboard.

    Am I missing something?
