Windows 10 System Errors - Can't reset, reformat, SFC scan...

    Hi All,

Hoping someone here can help me with this. My Windows 10 laptop is a disaster. A little background, it was reset and/or reformatted about a year ago in a divorce. He was using it as a secondary workstation and reformatted it ? reset? fresh install? no idea when I was taking this one and he took a different laptop. Amicable, laptop wasn't sabotaged lol

I have not been able to get it to run properly since. I noticed the issue immediately when booting it because no network option was available in the task bar. When trying to open the control panel to connect to a network that way, it loads blank and freezes, so I can't run Windows updates. Start menu network options don't load any wifi available. This put me down the rabbit hole and I realized all kinds of system functions weren't working properly. I'm getting errors on almost anything I try to do.

I've tried resetting and doing a windows refresh, all fail. The refresh never makes it past 1% and the resets either never stop the "set up" portion, or when it restarts, I'm told the reset failed. I've tried doing a SFC scan & disk scan in the command prompt, those also failed. I've tried safe mode solutions and in regular boot, nothing seems to be working.

Just tried another reset: "there was a problem resetting your pc no changes were made."

There's no personal files on the computer at this point, so I'm open to trying anything. Any ideas?

    Thank you!

    :)

Windows 10 wont boot, repair, reset, or system restore

    Hi,

The issue occurs due to an
    unfinished update process which
corrupted the system files. We suggest that you try these troubleshooting
methods and run the update again:

    Method 1:
    Run SFC Scan.

    To run an
    SFC scan, follow these steps:

    • Run
      Command Prompt as Administrator.

    • Type
      sfc /scannow
      and hit
      Enter.

This will check and run an auto-repair on the issue.

    Method 2:
    Run DISM Tool.

    After running the
    SFC scan
and the issue still persist, run the
    DISM
to check the system health and to try restoring the files. To run
    DISM tool, follow these steps:

    • Run
      Command Prompt as Administrator.

    • Type the following command:

      • DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /scanhealth

      • DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

    NOTE:
    This might take a while
    to finish scanning.
    Do not cancel.

Let us know how it goes.

    Regards.

  3. Windows 10 fails to update

    Thanks,

The Users list compared to the Profile list you posted earlier tell me there is not an issue with Users (a known issue where there is a profile in the list, but not actual User folder).

The error code suggests corruption in the CBS manifest:
Try these steps one at time until the issue is resolved or you run out of steps.

    Is Windows activated?
    No? Activate Windows 10

    Launch Command Prompt (Admin)
    enter the following line
    reg query HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate /s
    If DisableWindowsUpdateAccess REG_DWORD 0x1

    launch regedit
    navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
change the value of DisableWindowsUpdateAccess to 0
    exit regedit
    exit Command Prompt

    Launch Windows Update

Try the next suggestion if the issue is not resolved.

Restore health to the component store
DISM - Repair Windows 10 Image
Step 6. To Use DISM /RestoreHealth /Source:wim Command
    - OR -
Step 7. To Use DISM /RestoreHealth /Source:esd Command
    Check System Files
SFC Command - Run in Windows 10
    Read the front material, then
    follow >> OPTION THREE <<
To Run SFC /SCANNOW Command in Windows 10

If there are integrity issues reported on screen,
Follow the instructions in >> OPTION FIVE <<
To View Only the "SFC" Scan Results from the CBS.LOG

If there are no integrity errors, Launch Windows Update

Try the next suggestion if the issue is not resolved.

Paste the following line into the address bar of File Explorer
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\TroubleshootingLaunch System and Security > Fix problems with Windows Update
    Press Advanced
    Select Run as administrator
    Press Next

    Launch Windows Update

Try the next suggestion if the issue is not resolved.

    Automatically reset Windows Update components
Download and run MS Windows Update diagnostic cab (direct download)

    Launch Windows Update

Try the next suggestion if the issue is not resolved.

Manually reset Windows Updates via batch file

    sfc scan error

    Hi,

If System File Check wasn’t able to fix the scan errors, it’s possible that a software conflict has occurred. Let’s isolate this concern by performing a
clean boot. This process will help us identify if there are applications that may cause the issue. Click
    here
    for the steps.

As soon as you’re already in the clean boot state, check your computer and observe if you’ll see any unusual behavior while navigating your computer.

Note: After the troubleshooting, refer to this section: “How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting” on the same support
    article
to boot the computer in normal setup once the issue has been resolved.

After you’ve booted in the normal mode, we suggest running again the
    SFC
tool and also use the Deployment Image Servicing and Management
(DISM) tool. These tools are commonly used to repair errors or any corrupted files. Click this
    Forum Article by
ZigZag3143 (MS -MVP) for the instructions.

Also, regarding the blue screen error that you’ve encountered, please check this
article for the troubleshooting steps that you can perform for
