Windows 10: Computer sees I plugged in to the audio jack but ignores it anyways.

I've been using the same headset on my computer's audio jack for some time now. As of a few days ago, it suddenly has problems. If I plug it in before starting the computer, it'll go to my headset, but if I unplug it from the jack and plug it back in, the computer sees I plug it in, I click "OK" that it is a headset, but instead of using the headset again it ignores it and uses the speakers until I restart the computer. There is no other way I can see to get it to use the headset without restarting the computer. This is incredibly annoying as I don't want to restart the whole computer every time I accidentally unplug the headset, so I thank anyone in advance who helps me fix it. Also note again this was not a problem at all until a few days ago where it suddenly started happening for no reason.
I've been using the same exact headset for months.

Does Windows log when you plug in / unplug an audio device from a 3.5mm jack?

When an audio device is plugged/unplugged from the 3.5mm jack, does Windows log that anywhere?

Not by default. You have to write an app to detect plug in/plug out. Note the jack has to support jack-presence detection.

You can extend the sample code to log to a file or create a custom user define event in the event log.

Suggestion:

• Add code to use your built in webcam to take a photo of the culprit.
  

 

Computer's Audio Jacks Stopped Working

The audio jacks stopped working and it is not a hardware problem.

1. Multiple headsets do not get audio output from both of the audio jacks on the computer and the headsets are confirmed to be working, so it's the computer's problem.
2. The audio output through a DisplayPort monitor's audio jack and monitors' speakers still work, so the computer can still produce audio. The monitor's audio jack is not an option.
3. Both audio jacks stopped working at the same time despite only one being in use, so it's not hardware.

What is the problem and what is the solution?
