Windows 10: LifeCam Studio brought back to life with Firmware update

Recently my LifeCam Studio stopped working with Windows 10. Until March 2020, it worked fine then a Windows update broke it.


The error I received was 0xA00F4271<MediaCaptureFailedEvent> 0x80070018 when opening the Camera app in Windows 10.



After looking through multiple threads, I didn't find a solution that worked


Finally I found the product page for LifeCam Studio, which doesn't mention Windows 10!

This threw me off initially, but after someone showed me that their LifeCam Studio worked perfectly fine on Windows 10, I tried a Hail Mary:



I installed the Firmware update for Windows 7 32 and 64-bit, download from the page above, or here's the direct link:

Now the camera works again.

If I understood you right, you are facing issues installing LifeCam studio. I can help you with it.

First, I would suggest you to run the hardware troubleshooter and check.

Try these steps to run the troubleshooter:

• Type troubleshooting in the search bar.
  
• Click view all in the left panel.
• Select ‘Hardware and devices' and follow the on-screen instructions.
  

let’s update the Firmware and check if it makes any difference.

If the issue persists, please uninstall the Microsoft LifeCam application from the control panel and install the fresh version.

1. Right click the screen's bottom-left corner, click Control Panel, and then, under
Programs,

2. Click
Uninstall a Program.

3. When you find the program
Microsoft LifeCam, click it and Click Uninstall.

4. Follow the on screen instructions.

There may not be, or need be, any software to install at all?

With your LifeCam connected what happens when you click on "Camera" in the "All Apps" list? If it is there, and if it opens (big ifs) are there three dots showing that are clickable and take you to "Settings"?

 

Microsoft Lifecam Studio

Today, I successfully installed from Windows Updates, Microsoft - Camera - Microsoft LifeCam Studio for my existing LifeCam. However, my computer cannot locate LifeCam. I did confirm that Microsoft LifeCam is definitely installed on my computer but I
cannot find the icon which opens the program. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Thanks.
