Windows 10: Windows 10 Pro 2004 Mangles Printing

Installed 2004 last Tuesday morning, soon found that printing no longer worked correctly or not at all. First sign of problems was that articles edited in Firefox using the Print Edit WE extension no longer printed the headers and footers that I had set up.

Then I stated getting blank pages for Politico articles, with and without using Print Edit. Then I found that I could not print anything using either MS Edge or Google Chrome, and printing Word Perfect documents only printed part of pages.

It took me some time, and two well-handled support calls to Brother (for the printer) and Dell to confirm my growing suspicion that the combination of my new computer and Windows 10 2004 was the cause of the printing problems. Dell tech reverted my computer to 1909 which restored printing.

Interestingly, I found that, which 1909 is Home, the ability to suspend Windows updates for lengthy periods as provided by Home Pro is still there; I set the delay to 29 June 2020. I hope that I may hear from Dell, which has turned over the results of my support call to the relevant department for investigation.

(Just noticed that I had not updated the computer model, which is an XPS 8930; shall take care of that.)

Windows 10 Home Won't Print to Remote Printer


I have three computers.
Machine 1: Windows 10 pro, has the USB Brother HL-5040 printer
Machine 2: Windows 10 pro, prints OK to the remote printer.
Machine 3: Windows 10 home, Used to print, but not anymore (THIS IS THE PROBLEM).
I’ve tried everything that I can think of, and would appreciate any suggestions.
I did these steps on Machine 3 that did not work.

1. Remove the printer device.
2. Add a Printer
3. The printer that I want isn’t listed
4. Select a shared printer by name
5. Browse
6. Select the displayed Machine 1.
7. Select the displayed Printer.
8. Next
9. Failure “Connect to Printer”.
10. Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or Hostname
11. Next
12. Set Hostname to Machine 2, and set port name.
13. Detecting TCP/IP Port
14. Additional Port information required.
15. Device Type – Standard, Brother Port Server
16. Next
17. Detecting the Driver Model
18. Install The Print Driver
19. Select Brother and Brother HL-5040
20. Next
21. Replace the Current Driver
22. Printer Name (setting it to HL-5040)
23. Next
24. Do not share this printer
25. Next
26. You’ve successfully added “HL-5040”
27. Finish

Printing on Machine 3 puts the document in the print queue, which reports error printing.
Printing from Machine 2 to the printer on Machine 1 works perfectly.
All three machines are in the same HomeGroup. Machine 3 can access the shared files from Machine 1.

 

Windows 10 HP Officejet Pro 8620 Will not print


Thank you for posting this. I tried all the listed steps and still not able to print EXCEPT when I ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor; at the conclusion of the scan, the app prompts me to print a test page from within the Scan Doctor and it is successful. I recall the 8620 being able to do this as well, however.

I suggest you to perform the below troubleshooting steps and check if it helps:

Method 1: I suggest you to follow the steps below to print documents in the Windows 10 Edge browser and check if it helps:

• 
  Once the document is open in Edge, press
  Ctrl+P or More actions button at the top last end of the browser.
  
• 
  Click Print as PDF button.
  
• 
  Check if the document prints as expected.
  

If the above steps did not work, try the next methods.

Method 2: Set your printer as default.

• 
  Press Windows key and type
  Control Panel.
  
• 
  Click on view by and select large icons.
  
• 
  Open Devices and printers.
  
• 
  Right click on your printer and select set a default printer.
