Windows 10: Confused about Latest Firefox

I have 77.0.1 64 bit installed and check now and again using About Firefox and update to latest version this way.So far, it still shows 77.0.1.

If i install the latest version 78.0.1...will this be a complete fresh install ie your lose all bookmarks,add ons etc or will 77.0.1 be updated to 78.0.1 with everything intact...or shall i wait until About Firefox shows the new version 78.0.1 and update this way.

If that setting is already enabled, then I suggest as the next troubleshooting step might be Mozilla Safe Mode (not to be confused with Windows Safe Mode)):

In addition to the great advice already offered....

...Most problems with Firefox originate in the user's profile, not in the program itself.

A specific suggestion for the issue you report:

Then, there is a logical sequence for Firefox diagnostics, which (as already suggested) generally starts with Mozilla Safe Mode (not to be confused with Windows Safe Mode):

Firefox - Standard Diagnostic
or
Fix slowness, crashing, error messages and other problems

Resetting Firefox (as already suggested) is certainly a reasonable option, but there are other, less "destructive" steps one might consider first.
There are also more drastic steps, such as creating a new profile. This is sometimes the best way to get back up and running, if the existing profile is highly corrupted.
