  1. Slow Computer After Security Update

So on June 14th, I think, I awoke to find my PC rebooted presumably due to an update. Since that time the PC has run incredibly slow. Every component is sluggish. If I open more than a few apps, it crashes. Video conferencing is impossible. Excel takes seconds to switch cells. Word can't keep up with my typing.... etc.

Also, a few times the system has randomly decided to switch Office themes... AND... one very annoying feature, is that in File Explorer I am no longer prompted "Are you sure you want to delete this file" when I press delete key. It just deletes the file. Better hope I don't have a slip on the keyboard.

My 3rd party IT company with all the MS certifications, etc. has looked into this and basically said there is nothing they can do. Task Manager looks fine, nothing out of the norm it just runs sloooowwwwww. We cannot rollback to earlier date, since more than 13 days has passed who thought up of the random 13 days... there was a time where you could roll back months. Their only solution was to reinstall Windows and reset everything, requiring all non Office products to also be reinstalled. Seems like a sledgehammer approach to a MS glitch.

I have no expectation of any reasonable cure being advised by anyone out there. This is more me just venting at, yet another, MS frustration. My computer is an older DELL laptop 5 years which has been a work horse, never has given me a day of trouble with hardware and more than meets my needs for processing. Yet, a simple MS update has screwed the whole thing up. Way to go guys !

    Thank you for your time.

    :)

  3. slowness in computer usage.

    Hi John,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

I appreciate if you could answer a few questions to narrow down to the issue.

    • What is the make and model of the computer?

    • What makes you think that system is running slow? Is it when you are trying to run application?

    • Did you install any third party security application?
From the screenshot that you have provided, I understood that it’s not the issue with the disk usage. The slowness might be due to the memory usage.

As an initial troubleshooting step, I suggest you to run maintenance task and check if it helps.

    • Press Windows key + X from the desktop.

    • Select Control panel and Select System and Security.

    • Click on Troubleshoot common computer problems under System and maintenance.

    • Now Run maintenance task under
      System and security
      .
Hope the information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance. We will be happy to help.

    Thank you.
