  1. Windows 10 showed old partition before it was overwritten

I have had a weird situation come up with a hard drive. Has anyone had Windows 10 Show them an old partition that was written over? Here is what I did.

Computer A runs Windows 10 os on a small SSD and has a 2TB HDD with some files, 1 big NTFS partition for data storage. I shut it down and take out 2TB and put it in Computer B.

Computer B runs Windows 7 on a small SSD + has a 1TB HDD with 2 NTFS partitions, 1 for work data and 1 for play. I clone the 1TB HDD to 2TB HDD using Macrium Reflect then shutdown. I didn't format the 1TB HDD because when cloning it overwrites partitions. Before taking out 2TB, I realized i forgot to verify the data. Start up computer B again and make SFV file of data on both partition of 1TB and verify successfully both partitions on the 2TB drive. Shutdown and take out 2TB drive.

Computer A now has the 2TB drive, I boot up and login. I check the 2TB HDD and for some reason it shows the 1 big partition again and the old data before cloning. I try and open an old .txt file, the file doesn't open and then Windows says something like it discovered an error and needs to restart to run chkdisk. I got ahead to restart and chkdisk runs and repairs the hard drive. Once in Windows 10 the hard drives shows the 2 cloned partitions and everything seems fine. BUT i wasn't comfortable.

I take the SFV files from Computer B and verify the hard drive, about 1% of the files are corrupt. SMARTDISK says SMART tests are all good nothing failing. I am now doing scandisk and at 30% no bad sectors so far. So what do you think happened? I am going to have to clone again to get my data back but I don't want to get data loss again. What else should I do?

This is happening on a windows 2000 server. Our second partition of the system, for data is not showing under my computer. Here are the properties of it in disk management:

Now under logical drives its listed as F and shows free space available.

Suggestions on how to fix this?

    W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

    - press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
    - diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
    - list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
    - select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
    - clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
    - create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
    - exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
    - click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

Windows 10 showed old partition before it was overwritten

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
