    July 03 2020 Update - corrupted registry?

July 03, 2020 I updated Windows 10 to Version 1909, it says version 1909, but that doesn’t sound right, since I update regularly and this version was released last year. It took quite a while to update then on restarting; my laptop did not recognize either my fingerprint or PIN, rather on the login screen indicated a corrupt registry file. I am the only user, so limited options. I selected forgot PIN, hoping to find a way to reset it and log back in. Again, it took quite a while and the screen went black and shut down. On start-up, my screen looked normal and it recognized my fingerprint, however, all my documents on the computer are now encrypted in an old version of Windows; i.e. it looks like it re-created my profile but without attaching any of my folders or settings, it’s like a new install, but version 1909. I went to roll back to the previous version of windows but nothing shows as a previous version. Also, when I click recovery, go back to the previous version, it starts up, then a pop-up says:

“Before you can go back to the previous Windows, you’ll need to remove any user accounts you added after your most recent upgrade. The accounts need to be completely removed including their profiles.

    You created one account:

    S-1-5-21-1188197869-4895564-675112402-1102

Go to Settings > Accounts > Other people to remove these accounts, then try again”

I don’t actually have “Other people” only “Family and other users” but there are no accounts there. Or anywhere else except for the one I’m logged in with and I’m very reluctant to get rid of this until I have a means of recovering my documents.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

    :)

    2020-03 Cumulative update failure

I have Windows 10 1909 64bit installed on a Lenovo laptop. When I try to install the 2020-03 Cumulative update (KB4540673) it will download and then install to the point of saying that it is 100% installed, then it will change to say There were problems Installing some Updates, -Error 0x800f0982

I have run the disk clean up and run scan /sfc on the C drive, the C drive is a SSD with 65gb free.

I have checked on line and the suggestion are to remove any recently installed language packs, I only have one language pack installed, English (United Kingdom) so I am not likely to be uninstalling that. The laptop has been running with Windows 10 since June 2019 with no problems.

    Can anybody please advise
