Windows 10: Stuck on “Restarting”

Recently, I was playing Minecraft and my keyboard stopped working. I could still move the mouse and interqct with the game, but I could not walk or do any other action that involved the keyboard.

My first instinct was Ctrl+alt+delete, but this also didn’t work. After a while, I pressed the power button for 10 seconds I have a Dell laptop. Nothing. I then pressed it for about a minute, but this did not change anything.

I eventually found a way to get out of the game using only my mouse and discovered that the computer was working like normal. I could watch youtube, listen to Spotify, anything that could be done with the mouse. Because the keyboard was still not working, I restarted the computer.

It showed the restarting icon for about three minutes until the little wheel above “Restarting” stopped spinning and simply froze in place.

I left it there for about two hours while I was doing something else, hoping that it would eventually restart, but it is still frozen.

Does anyone know a way to fix this without removing the battery? It is now unplugged I’m hoping that it eventually runs out of power and still doesn’t budge when I press ctrl+alt+delete or power.

Method 1:

I suggest you to perform the Startup Repair and check.

Follow the below steps:

• Click on the Start button and click on the Settings option.
• Select Update & security > Recovery.
• Go to Advanced startup and select Restart now.
• After your PC restarts to the Choose an option screen, select
  Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair.

If the issue persists then follow the below method.

Method 2:

I would recommend suggest you to enable the fast startup.

Follow the below steps:

• Right click on the Start icon and select Power Options.
• Click on the Choose what power buttons do on the left navigation pane.
• Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable (Enter the admin credentials if prompted).
• Check the Turn on Fast startup (Recommended) box.
• Click on Save changes.
• Restart the computer.
