    Trouble removing a microsoft account

    Hey all,

As far as editing internal computer settings other than superficial ones, I do not have too much experience. So, my apologies ahead of time.

When I bought this computer & filled in my info as Administrator as I first turned it on, etc - my email address was one which is far removed from the one I use now. Unfortunately, I have no idea what the password of the old one is anymore... I also just recently last couple months started using the actual Mail icon/program provided by Windows as the I believe default program - to keep track of my emails. I had no problem adding my current email, and have since had no problems as far as that in any way. I had actually forgotten the old email address was even still registered on there. I've been getting notifications lately, though, telling me that there is a problem with one of my accounts - 'most likely a password change.' I had been ignoring it until a few hours ago; when I finally looked into it I saw that it was the original email that the notification was referring to - which I haven't used for more than a year. I definitely don't know the password anymore to it stupid me, neglect on my part, I know & have no way of retrieving it as my phone number has also changed since then.

I've googled it & read that I can "simply click on 'manage' & then 'remove' & the account will be removed" - though, I click on "manage" & see no "remove" option anywhere. Could someone help me? If I've not explained this as clearly as needed, if you'd like more specifics, screenshots, etc, I'd be more than happy to provide them! I'd SO VERY much appreciate it if SOME kind soul out there with the knowledge could help me!! Thank you for your time reading this! As well as thanking you in advance for any help provided!

    Best,

    K. Lee Vaughn

P.S. - Please kindly let me know if I accidentally categorized this incorrectly - like I said, I'm not too adept at internal issues :-\ I will change it as soon as I get the message - if it is, indeed, in the wrong category ... THANK YOU AGAIN!

    Removing an account

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-8/remove-account

Note: The steps for Windows 8/8.1 applies to Windows 10 as well.

I would like to inform you that if you do not have any other user account created on your computer, you will not be able to remove the account. The only option for you is to convert the existing Microsoft account to Local account.
You may refer to the following steps on how to switch from Microsoft account to Local account.

    • Click on search in taskbar and type account.
    • Click on Accounts.
    • Now, under your account, click on Sign in with Local account instead.
    • Enter your Microsoft account password for confirmation and then follow the screen instruction.
    • Enter User name credentials for your the Local account and click
      OK
      .
    • Now, login to Local account.

If you want to bypass the login screen and directly enter to desktop without entering the password, I suggest you to follow the steps provided below and check if it helps.

    • Press Windows Logo + R keys.
    • Type netplwiz and Press
      ENTER.
    • Uncheck the box “Users must enter
a username and password to use this computer” and Click
      Apply.
    • Double click on the User account on which you want to apply this settings.
    • You’ll now be asked to enter the username and password of the account you want to be logged in with automatically
    • Click on OK button.
