  2. Unable to access documents with error: "Word cannot open the document: user does not have access privileges", on Windows 10

    Hi,

Welcome to Microsoft Community and thank you for posting. We appreciate your interest in Windows 10.

I understand the inconvenience that you are getting error “Word cannot open the document: user does not have access privileges” while accessing backed up data in Windows 10. We will help you to resolve this issue.

Do let us know if this issue specific only to the backed up data?

I suggest you to follow the below steps to provide permission to the folder and check if that helps.

Steps to give permissions to the drive:

    • Right-click on the folder which you’re unable to access and select
      Properties.

    • Click on Security tab and under
      Group or user names
      click on Edit.

    • Click on Add and type Everyone.

    • Click on Check names and then click
      OK.

    • Select Everyone and under
      Allow
select Full control and click on
      Apply and Click Ok.

For reference go through the below article:

"Access Denied" or other errors when you access or work with files and folders in Windows

Hope it helps. Reply to the post with an updated status of the issue to assist you further.

  3. User Does Not Have Access Privileges

    Hello Anil,

Who is this HOME USER & where did it come from?

I am having the same issue on a drive F: what I notice is some folders have only this home user with limited permissions. There is no system, no admins. nothing with full privileges. Some folders however have duplicate system, admin etc with separated privileges.
    Ugh.

My F: drive contained symbolic links to user docs, pics, music, etc. It only seems to sort-of work after the upgrade to 10.

BTW: I added back the missing users & left the HOME USER alone.

This is a problem with the upgrade that MS should resolve & not expect users to fix. Realizing that what's already done can't be undone - this upgrade is yet to be pushed to many more users & should be addressed. IMHO

MS Wrod Error Message user don't have access privileges

Does windows(10/server-2016) have privileged ports ?

I can bind to any un-used privileged ports with out admin credentials. Is this expected ? Is there no concept of privileged ports in new versions of windows ?

Below are the steps I followed:

    1. Logged in as non-admin user in Windows-server 2016.
    2. Installed python and started the server on port 80 using python -m SimpleHTTPServer 80
    3. Another user on the same system could access using http://localhost
Can anyone provide more in-sight into this ?
