Windows 10: No "Virus & threat protection," tried *everything* I found online, doesn't work

Hi everyone. I have been trying to figure out how to make my Windows Defender scan files. Everyone so far has the same responses, all of which I have tried. I have Windows 10 Home v1909. Please let me know if you need more system information. Here is what I see when I try to Scan with Windows Defender:





I don't have the Virus & threat protection tab. I don't remember ever having it since I got this PC. I am on an Administrator profile, and I have never installed any other antivirus program. Here is what I tried:


1. Checked to make sure my user profile isn't corrupted. I encountered the same error on a test administrator profile, before and after trying the options below, so I'm pretty sure this isn't the problem.


2. Used Group Policy Editor to disable Turn off Windows Defender Antivirus. I checked Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Windows Defender Antivirus. This option wasn't turned on, actually. It just wasn't configured before, so I changed it to Disabled.





3. Used regedit. I didn't see any registry files that included the word "Disable," so I couldn't change the values or delete anything like that. They didn't exist as far as I could tell. Here are my findings:

Maybe one of these is the answer, but I don't want to mess with something I don't understand unless I have clear instructions.


It seems like everything else is running: Win10 is producing recent Health reports "No issues" for all categories, and my firewall is on. There is just no Virus & threat protection section.


Is this intentional? Is this blocked from me by some other means? Do I have to have Pro? I had to install a Windows Batch File to access gpedit.msc, so is it similar to that?

virus and threat protection

Virus and threat protection has stopped and will not restart, Windows 10 ver 1709, antimalware client ver 4.12.16299.15 . SuperAntiSpyware installed.

I have tried most of the suggestions from the support pages, all have been ineffective. Any suggestions

Virus and Threat protection not working.

It keeps saying to restart virus and threat protection. When I click on restart, it does restarts, but stops again after a few seconds. I have tried almost everything but nothing worked.
