Windows 10: Unable to type in windows-specific textboxes

Hello,

I have this weird problem where if I try to type in the the start search bar, or a text box in the windows settings menu, or even in the Edge browser, it seems to select the next element after the first letter is typed, preventing any additional characters from being entered. When attempting to refocus the textbox, it switches back to whatever it selected instantly, preventing me from typing in any textbox belonging to a Windows application. It started happening a couple of months ago, presumably with one of the windows updates?

Details below:

1. For example, when I try to search in the start menu, I only get to type the first letter before it displays the closes result and doesn't let me type anything else. The "open" button is selected.



2. Another example is the Windows Settings menu, where - as you can see in the screenshot - the Network & Internet element is selected. Every time I try to switch focus to the text box, it goes back to selecting that menu item, preventing me from searching anything.




3. It also occurs in Microsoft Edge and probably a bunch of other "new" windows applications. "Old" stuff works fine e.g Windows Explorer, mspaint, old Windows+R launcher etc. Anything not Microsoft is also fine.

I have tried the following:

1. Installing the latest updates. My Windows is up to date.
2. Resetting Windows while keeping my files.
3. Connecting a different set of peripherals, even though I would like to stress that this only happens in Windows specific applications, more specifically anything that uses the new UI stuff.

Additional details:

- Desktop computer running i5 6600k, GeForce GTX 1060.
- Windows Edition: Windows 10 Pro.
- Windows Version: 2004.
- OS build: 19041.329
- Experience: Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2202.130.0

Would appreciate any help as this is quite frustrating. I don't really know where stuff on my computer is located and I use the start menu search all the time.

Unable to type text in any of start (search func)

• As mentioned in title, I was unable to type in the start (press start > press any key to search)
• Unable to type wifi password too (but can paste) > essentially the wifi passcode textbox that popups up from taskbar
• I have tried many well-known antiviruses, malwarebytes etc. but none could solve the issue
• I have also tried powershell scripts to fix but it doesn't work either:
  
  

 

3D Paint Textbox Moving By Itself Issue

I understand how frustrating it could be when Windows features do not work as they are supposed to, however, upon checking this on multiple computers, I was able to position the textbox as per my requirements. It seems that there
is some issue with the application settings on your end.



I would suggest to reset the application or reinstall it, to achieve this, please follow the steps given below.



Go to Settings->Apps->Apps & features->Paint 3D->Advanced options->Reset.



If resetting the application does not work, it would suggest to uninstall it and reinstall it from Store. Please follow the steps mentioned below.

• Right click on Start button (Windows logo) and choose
  Windows PowerShell (Admin).
  
• Type Get-AppxPackage *Paint3D* | Remove-AppxPackage and hit the
  Enter key.
  
• Upon the successful completion of the above command, Paint 3D will be removed from the computer.
  
• Launch Windows Store and reinstall the application.
