Unable to safely eject usb3 hard disk

    hi guys,

    version 1909
    18363.900

so i have the "better performance" option enabled for my hard disk but recently there's no way i can just click eject and remove the hard disk, it's happening ALL the time.

I went into event viewer and it seems to be process 6164, antimalware service executable for Windows Defender.

is there a way to disable the scan to usb3 hard disks / external devices'

Even if it is stays there like 4 hours, which means the scan should be finished, it's still stuck.

only way to do a clean one either shut down or restart and right after that happens, click on eject, that achieves a clean shutdown.

    thanks,
    Gabrio

    :)

  2. Windows10 randomly refuses to safely eject external disks

    Hello there,

More than 11 months ago I expose in these forums some problems in Windows10.

One of them is the denial to safely eject external disks.

Here is what happens: I connect one of my external disks to my pc, then I move/copy/delete/edit/view some files, and later, after closing EVERYTHING, Windows10 refuses to safely eject my disk. It replies, "Windows can't stop your 'Volume' device because
a program is still using it
    ".

Windows doesn't tell me what program is employing my drive. And I know for sure there is nothing employing it.

That issue happens randomly. I mean, sometimes I can safely eject the disk, and sometimes I cannot.

Today I downloaded from Microsoft the app named "procexp64.exe" which showed me what is employing my external disk.

And, they are Windows processes only!

Let's say my disk's root ID is "M:\"

    The Process Explorer found:

    • Four "system" processes with open files in M:\$Extend\$RmMetadata\$Txf.........
    • Two "explorer" processes with open directory M:\

Hence, Windows doesn't allow me to safely eject my external disk because Windows forgot it was itself the one using my disk!

Almost 1 year has passed, and the issue still persists.

    Annoying!

Missing Eject in "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" List

    Hi Tze Lin Wong,

The configuration to this can be found under settings. To enable this feature follow these steps:

    1. Right-click the taskbar and select Taskbar settings.
    2. Under Notification Area, choose
Select which icons appear on the taskbar.
    3. Scroll to Windows Explorer: Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media
      and turn it on.

If this doesn't work, I suggest that you check with your USB drive manufacturer for new drivers or other updates.

    All the best.

Unable to safely eject usb3 hard disk

Mount external USB3 disk after Safely Removing it?

Win 10 Pro 64bit. I have an external hard disk (WD MyBook) connected via USB3. After using it I use the "Safely Remove ..." thingo to remove/unmount it. Sometimes I want to mount it again but the only way I have found to do that is to power the drive down and up again. I'd like to mount it again without powering the disk down and up. This disk does not have a power switch so I have to pull the power adapter.

Seems like there should be an easier way to mount the disk. Suggestions?
