  1. External Hard Disk Unintialized , Not Recognized , Shows to have vary High Capacity

External Hard Disk Unintialized , Not Recognized , Shows to have vary High Capacity [IMG]When I connect My Transcend's StoreJet 25H3 1TB external Hard disk to My PC It does not shows in File explorer as a drive or partition. After going to the disk manager It shows as uninitialized as above. When I try to initialize the device in MBR or GPT it gives the error 'data error Data redundancy check'.

I tries to recovery my files using 3 different recovery softwares .When I start the recovery process the program scans the the Hard disk as an 10000+ TB device. So even through fast scan it could take more than 30 days to fully scan the full disk.I Ran it for like 5,6 hours and any software didn't got to 1%.When I tried to check bad sectors using software it causes the same issue .It show hard disk has 15000000000000+ sectors.I Can't repair the disk using CHKDSK through CMD as the hard disk doen't show as an drive.I tries to get the address through MOUNTVOL and the disk didn't show up there too.I found the device address I think through devince manager >Properties and Tried to repair using it.When I enter that command Chkdsk "\\vol....." /f command pormpt says cannot directly acces drive.I tried formatting through Transcend software and it gives an error.I tries cleaning disk and assigning a letter through command promt and it says cannot assign. Is there and other way to recover the data or at least the hard disk or Has my worst nightmare come through.

Few more things, When I plug in the disk to the PC , it take about 10 or 13 minutes show up as a device in disk managerOnly then functional key start flashing. When scaning via a recovery software the disk functiom key flashes meaning it is doing something. When I tried to repair using a software it says EaseUS partition manager unsupported format.Hard disk worked perfectly two days ago.The problem occured when I tried to connect it to a friends Laptop.Didn't try wiping disk via 3rd arty software. Also tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers.Another Same model Hard disk works perfectly fine. The hard disk is 3 years old.Thank You.

    :)

    external hard drive not recognized

    Hello zbook
#1) I have tested the external drives in three different computers, win10 pro, Win10, and XP. The results are identical. When I plug in the external hard drive windows signals a new device with an audio signal and the light comes on on the external drive. The results on all three pc's is identical in disk manager, file explorer and device manager.
#2) I have tried all solutions presented to me by FreeBooter, from the simplest solution of uninstalling the external drive in device manager and rebooting windows, to using the various third party software that was suggested, obviously with out success.
#3) The attached screen shots will only show one of the drives attached because I don't have enough free USB ports to attach two drives and I didn't think it would have been a good idea to use a hub.
#4) one strange thing about one of the drives is that now device manager lists it as a Toshiba drive although it is a Western Digital.
#5) Sorry but I have no way of getting a photo of BIOS

  3. External Hard disk contents are not visible.

    Hi Pranoti,

For us to narrow down your concern with your external hard disk, we would like to know the following:

    • Were there any changes made on your computer prior to the issue (e.g., updates, software installation)?
    • To make sure that we have not missed on anything, what troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
    • Do you hear any clicking sound when connecting your hard disk?

In the meantime, we suggest that you update all your device driver.

We look forward to your response.

unintialized western digital hard disk drive

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft community. I understand the inconvenience caused and will certainly assist you with the issue.

Provide the following information to assist you further:
    1. Did you try connecting your external drive to different pc and check if it is detected?

    2. Once you plug in the external device does the system recognize the external HDD?

    3. Does the system recognize any other USB device?

    4. Did you have the option to Initialize in Disk Management? Does it ask you to initialize when you reconnect the drive to the computer?

    Method 1:

I would suggest you to run “Hardware and Devices” troubleshooter
    to diagnose the exact issue.

Follow these steps to run the troubleshooter:

    1. Press “Windows key + W”.

    2. Type “Troubleshooting” without quotes in the Search box and hit enter.

    3. Select “Hardware and Sound” from the Troubleshooter Window.

    4. Select “Hardware and Devices” under Devices option.

    5. Follow the On Screen instructions.

    Method 2:

I suggest you to refer to section "A basic disk's status is Not Initialized." from this link:

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc787481%28v=ws.10%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396#BKMK_2

I would like to inform you that , It could be an either an issue with the hard drive itself or it is formatted in a partition which is not recognized by windows. Once the hard drive is connected open command prompt (Admin) and type diskpart and hit enter.
Then type list disk and hit enter.

Whatever information is displayed kindly post a screenshot for the same.

Hope this helps. Do get back to us with the above information to assist you further, We are happy to help.
