Windows 10: BitLocker Go & File Writing Issues

Hello, and thank you in advance for your support.

I am using the latest Windows 10 pro version on a x64 laptop (HDD hard-drive). I use a USB flash drive to keep some important folders in sync with my laptop using an open source program called Freefile Sync. Usually everything goes fantastic and the transfer speed & file writing ratio are fast. However after I encrypted my flash drive using BitLocker Go, the overall writing and transfer speed became very slow to the point it takes over 15 minutes to transfer a dozen pictures with a size of ~20 MB. I used both the regular USB 2.0 and the 3.0 ports and it didn't make a difference.

I want to know if this is because I encrypted my flash drive?

what is bitlocker writing, after copying file?

When I transfer a 1gb file, bitlocker keeps writing something to the drive.

looking at the graph, you can see it taper off.

in constrast, with bitlocker off, there is no taper off.

what is bitlocker writing after the file has already been transferred?

Does bitlocker encrypt on the fly, or encrypt after a file has finished copying?

Does bitlocker write double the data? thereby using up an ssd's life sooner?

Change in folder size after enabling Bitlocker

We understand you concern related to the size of the folder displayed. Try these steps to narrow down the issue:

1. Disable bitlocker
   and then check the folder size.
2. We would also suggest you to open the folder and select all files and see the size of the contents.

Let us know if the size of the contents matches the folder size. If you see a difference, then the folder might be showing incorrect size.

Need to turn off Bitlocker to install Windows 10

Hi,

We suggest doing the following steps again to resolve the issue. To complete the procedure, make sure that you have the following information:

• You must be able to provide administrative credentials.
• The drive must be BitLocker-protected.

To suspend BitLocker Drive Encryption on an operating system drive, please follow the steps below:

• Click Start, click Control Panel, click
  System and Security, and then click BitLocker Drive Encryption.
• Click Suspend Protection for the operating system drive.
• A message is displayed, informing you that your data will not be protected while BitLocker is suspended and asking if you want to suspend BitLocker Drive Encryption.
  
• Click Yes to continue and suspend BitLocker on the drive.
