  1. Laptop with 144Hz screen locked to 60Hz for no reason

I have this issue that my games get stuck at 60 fps the screen is 144Hz and I have figured that this is not something related to the game itself, you know when you start to get used to see like 90 to 144 frames per second, you can distinguish between 144 fps and 60 fps. The thing is that when this happens and my game gets locked to 60 fps, when I return to desktop and I start to move the mouse pointer I can appreciate that its movement is kind of slower, but when I check what windows says on screen settings, it's still 144Hz, and the same goes to nvidia control panel. Also when I play a different game, it says that it is 144 fps but it isn't, you can tell when something is running so much less than 144Hz when you get used to it, and I confirmed that when I setted the vertical sync on in that game and yes, it went down to 60 fps, so the monitor frame rate is set to 60Hz for no reason and neither windows or nvidia control panel shows that those ones still say that the monitor is at 144Hz . I think windows may be changing internally the refresh rate of the screen but I don't know what to do. Also, this get solved usually by restarting the laptop and I recently found out that turning G-sync on and then off again gets the problem solved too but the problem always come back, the screen always gets locked to 60Hz after some time sometimes it happens after 15 minutes, other times it happens after 2 hours and it's really frustrating to be playing and then your monitor just get stuck at 60Hz for no reason. Model: Predator Helios 500, i7-8750h, GTX1070, 144Hz, windows 10 version 1909.

    144hz and 60hz Stuttering Issues

I can pretty much guarantee that the issue is the difference in frequency between the 2 panels, it can either do one frame rate or the other, not both, the stutters are one screen running at 60Hz, thus locking the desktop and any full screen applications to 60fps too, which means that your laptop's panel is running at 60fps while being capable of running at 144Hz, which causes eye burning stutters.

Yeah that's definitely the problem, but how do I solve it? Do I seriously just have to buy a 144hz monitor just to use as a second screen?

Dual monitor setup locks 144Hz monitor at 60Hz

I've been running a multi-monitor setup for a while now, with an ASUS VG248QE 144Hz monitor as my main, and one or more spare monitors as secondary displays. I've set the ASUS monitor to 144Hz without issue in the past, while the other monitors stay at 60Hz.

The other night, Windows wanted to update. I figured it was the usual patch session, so I let it do its thing. However, after restarting my computer, I noticed that my ASUS monitor would only operate at 144Hz if it was the only monitor plugged into the system. When I try to set it higher in the Nvidia control panel, it just reverts back to 60Hz after applying changes. I updated my graphics drivers (though I was only one version behind) and even sought a special ASUS driver for the monitor to resolve the issue, but nothing has helped.

Did Windows recently add a forced refresh rate sync between all monitors recently? If so, that really sucks because I only own one 144Hz monitor.
