  1. Unknown user account has appeared. How can I delete it?

My wife's computer shows only one account in the Users Account tab in the control panel: <"wife", Local Account, Administrator, Password Protected>. When I logged on as "wife" and tried to save some files it said I didn't have proper permissions.

In the C:\Users folder there is a folder for "wife " and another folder called "wif". This folder was created somehow on Feb 29, 2020; presumably through some kind of hack. The "wif" folder contains a NTUSER.DAT file that has somehow captured the Current User status: when I Run CMD, the prompt reads C:\Users\"wif".

I have not yet succeeded in deleting "wif". At first it said it was because the "wif" NTUSER.DAT file was in use by the system and couldn't be deleted. After trying multiple approaches it now just says "access denied" to the "wif" folder. I suppose RegEdit could solve the problem but this is beyond my skill level. Could somebody please help me? I would really like to restore my wife's ability to control her own computer Dell Inspiron 14 7600. Thank you.

    :)

Unknown User Account created after upgrading to windows 10. It comes back if I delete it.

    Original Title: Unknown User Account

    Hello,

Since I upgraded to Windows 10 I am seeing an account that I did NOT create. So I deleted it by going into Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > User Accounts > Manage Accounts then I click on the unknown user account and delete it. That said.... It
comes back. I have also followed the below suggestions from other posts and still does not seem to work.

Let’s try simple steps and check if the user account is detecting and try removing it.

    • Press Windows key + R, type netplwiz and press Enter.

    • Check if the user account is appearing on the list.

    • Click on user account and click on Remove. (If user account appear on the list).
    Please advise.

    Thank you

  4. Unknown user account has appeared. How can I delete it?

How do I delete my account?

vBulletin needs some simple function, just like "register", called "deregister". What does it do? Turns off the account. Can no longer post. Other users see the person has left and don't expect answers. (Status: deregistered). All messaging is stopped. Email and password is deleted from database. However, POSTS remain, as does the username in the user database. The username cannot be reused.

This can be functionally replicated with what w1z suggested earlier in the thread, ie. fill in the email with nonsense and manually delete anything you want removed. However, it is more elegant to have a deregister function, just as you have unsubscribe to mailing lists, just as you deregister with the various authorities when you move house etc. etc.

However, users should bang on at the forum software developers to implement this, not the forum admins themselves, who bought the software with fixed functionality.

In fact, there is an add-on for vbulletin End-User Options - Self Delete: Allow users to self-delete their account - vBulletin.org Forum
