Windows 10, version 1909 - new speech bubble icon appearing in taskbar - what is it?

I updated to Windows 10, version 1909 a week back - since then I noticed a small blue icon in the task bar, it looks like a speech bubble or a microphone. When I try and click on it, it disappears and it seems to come back randomly - I attach a screen shot.

Does anyone know what it is?

    Thanks in advance.

PS - I use McAfee antivirus and it has not flagged anything so far.

How to return sound/volume icon to taskbar on Windows 10 version 1907

    Hi,

The icons in the taskbar can be modified based on your liking. In your case, there's a possibility that the show icon for volume is turned off or recent changes have occurred on your PC such as new updates caused the volume to disappear from the taskbar.
For us to better assist you, we would like to ask a few questions.

    • Have you made any recent changes or installed updates prior to the issue?
    • What is the current build of your Windows 10 version 1709 device? To check, type
winver in the search bar and press Enter.

To check if your volume icon is on or off, follow the steps below:

    • Open the Settings app.
    • Click on Personalization.
    • Go to Taskbar tab and click Select which icons appear on the taskbar.
    • Check the Volume icon status.
