  3. Windows 10 lags

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We understand how difficult it is when the PC doesn’t perform the way it should be. We were checking the lag issue, but
in order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below.

    • What is the Windows 10 version and Build installed? (Type
      winver in Windows search/Run command)
    • How much is the CPU and Disk usage showing in Task Manager, also check if any particular program is having high CPU and Disk usage?

We would suggest you to refer the steps as suggested in this article (Exclude step 10):
Tips to improve PC performance in Windows 10

Meanwhile, put the PC in Clean Boot and see if you still get the PC lagging issue. Refer the article

How to perform a clean boot in Windows
. A ‘clean boot’ starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. If the settings app is working fine in Clean Boot then please refer the section
How to determine what is causing the problem after you do a clean boot
to determine the root cause of the issue.

Note: After you finish troubleshooting, follow the section
Reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting
to reset the computer to start normally.

PC still automounts volume even after disabling NoAutoMount registry key

    Hello Glenn,

There are multiple factors to consider if you're system still mounts volume even after modifying the registry. Since the
NoAutoMount registry key is already set to 1, I suggest performing a clean boot to isolate the cause of your concern. This procedure will start Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This will
help us determine whether a background program is conflicting with the automount feature. Refer to this
support article for the steps on how to perform a clean boot
in Windows 10. Follow the steps under the section: How to perform a clean boot. You can also watch our
    for more details.

    IMPORTANT: Go to the section:
Reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting to boot the PC in normal startup after identifying the cause of the issue.

Should the issue remain even on a clean boot state, you can run the DISM command-line tool and the
SFC tool. Both tools will scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files. You need to be signed in as the administrator to perform this.

    1. Click the Start button and type
      Command Prompt.
    2. Right-click Command Prompt and choose
      Run as administrator.
    3. Enter DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
      and then press Enter.
      • Note the space before each "/".
      • This step may take a few minutes to start and up to 30 minutes to run and complete.
    4. Enter sfc /scannow and then hit
      Enter.
      • Note the space between "sfc" and "/".
    5. Restart your PC.

If you have additional questions, or if the issue persists after the troubleshooting steps above, please let me know by replying to this thread. This way, I'll get notified and respond back to you as soon as I can.
