  1. Connected Device Platform Service CDPSvc read huge amount of data 123GB from disk

    I'm running Windows 10 Home version 1909.

I notice from Task Manager that Connected Device Platform Service CDPSvc has been reading a huge amount of data from disc a whooping 123GB.

BTW, it also has 4GB of I/O other bytes, and 1GB of I/O write bytes.

This seems ridiculous. And I'm not sure why.

    I'm sure I don't have malware.

And I can that the running process is digitally signed by Microsoft using Sysinternal Process Explorer.

What is it doing? And what legitimate reason why it's reading such huge amount of data?

    :)

Connected Devices Platform Service - What does it do?

I have the same error. Not finding a lot about it. I noticed when doing web searches, a lot of people have "Connected Device Platform" instead of "Connected Devices Platform".

I did come across these bits of information:

Connected Device Platform Service (CDPSvc) Defaults in Windows 10
Connected Device Platform Service (CDPSvc) Defaults in Windows 10

on this page, it says this service is disabled by default on Windows 10 version 1511.

Connected Devices Platform Service - Windows 10 Service
Connected Devices Platform Service - Windows 10 Service - batcmd.com

it says this new Windows 10 service is disabled by default in all Windows 10 v1511 editions, but set to automatic in v1607 (Anniversary Update).

I've checked 3 laptops (1-Home, 2-Pro) and 1 desktop (Pro). The 3 laptops are on version 1511 and all 3 have this service disabled. However, on the desktop, the only PC upgraded to the Anniversary Update (version 1607), it's set to automatic delayed start. I know the laptops haven't been touched, so that's definitely the default in version 1511.

I think the default has been changed to "Automatic (Delayed Start)" in version 1607 since that's what I'm seeing on my PC. Still don't know exactly what this service is for except the description:

"This service is used for Connected Devices and Universal Glass scenarios"

    Connected Device Platform Service
    Connected Device Platform Service

Someone here said it was "associated with Bluetooth, or Printers & Scanners as well as music players, storage devices, mobile phones, cameras, and many other types of connected devices.".

    A Twitter thread here:
    WalkingCat on Twitter:

mentions "Xbox/SmarGlass stuff" and "Project Rome".

Microsoft to ease app-handoff with Windows 10 and beyond with 'Project Rome'

Microsoft to ease app-handoff with Windows 10 and beyond with 'Project Rome' | ZDNet

I don't have bluetooth or wireless on my desktop and don't have any kind of "connected devices" besides printers, scanners, and external USB stick/hard drives. I disabled the service and rebooted, no more 7023 errors. Everything still seems to be working fine.

  3. Event Id 7023 Windows Anniversary Update - The Connected Devices Platform Service service terminated with the following error: Unspecified error

I had not linked the two threads.

The Event ID: 55 and 56 reports do not appear in the Event Viewer System log so you need to copy and paste a copy of one of the reports so that I cannot discover where they come.

Paragraph 2.33 of the General notes on Event Viewer:

This persistent and intriguing error appears in your System log.

  4. Connected Device Platform Service CDPSvc read huge amount of data 123GB from disk

SYSTEM is consuming huge amount of data on internet

    Good Afternoon!

Recently, I bought a second hand laptop with Windows 10 pre-installed to it. Here are some details regarding my OS:

    Edition: Windows 10 Enterprise
    Version: 1703
    OS Build: 15063.11
System Type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

I noticed however, that the laptop is consuming huge amount of bandwidth and data on our internet (Ethernet indicator blinks rapidly). Then I tried checking the data usage:

Connected Device Platform Service CDPSvc read huge amount of data 123GB from disk [IMG]

However, after a minute or two, I tried checking again the data usage (I closed the setting and re-opened it again)

Connected Device Platform Service CDPSvc read huge amount of data 123GB from disk [IMG]

Please note that I'm not running any application as of now (except Microsoft Edge). Then I tried turning off the internet connection (by enabling airplane mode). Then I checked for the data usage again. The "SYSTEM" already consumed 2 MB of data even if on airplane mode.

I tried checking if there are updates available:

Connected Device Platform Service CDPSvc read huge amount of data 123GB from disk [IMG]

I also tried checking for application updates from Microsoft Store. I paused all the download and updates:

Connected Device Platform Service CDPSvc read huge amount of data 123GB from disk [IMG]

I disabled background apps but still the "SYSTEM" consumes considerably large amount of bandwidth and data:

Connected Device Platform Service CDPSvc read huge amount of data 123GB from disk [IMG]

My friend does have a laptop with Windows 10 version 1803. Her laptop doesn't eat bandwidth like mine.

    So my question is:
    1. What is the "SYSTEM" process that eats my internet bandwidth and data?
    2. How do you stop it from consuming my internet bandwidth?
