Windows 10: Laptop will not go to sleep when closing the lid.

Hey guys, hoping someone can help me here. My school issued laptop will not go to sleep when i close the "lid". It will only sleep if I click the start button and select sleep, which is fine, however; sometimes I just close it up out of habit, and when I come back to it a few hours later it sounds like a rocket ship is about to take off and it feels like its on the verge of melting. This issue also has a significant effect on the battery life unless its plugged into power constantly. I will include a picture of my power settings to show what my settings are. Even having it set to sleep after 10 minutes while plugged in OR on battery does nothing.

Laptop keeps restarting after going to sleep (when the lid is closed).

Hi Craig,

It's possible that your lid close action is configured to shut down your computer. To make sure your settings are properly configured, you can refer to the steps below:

• Right-click on the Start menu, then choose Control
  Panel.
• Change the View by: option on the upper-right-part of the screen to Small icons.
• Choose Power Options.
• Select your power plan (e.g. High Performance), then choose Change plan settings.
• Click Change advanced power settings.
• Go to Sleep settings, then disable hybrid sleep.
• Under Power Buttons and Lid, check if
  Sleep is chosen as action when lid is close.
  
• Hit Apply and OK.

If the lid close action is set to Sleep, we suggest checking if your drivers are up-to-date. When it comes to sleep mode issues, the driver related are network, chipset, and BIOS drivers. To update your drivers, you can refer to this

Windows 10 sleeps when using external monitor and closing the laptop lid.

Before we assist further, I would like to ask you a few questions:

• Have you set Sleep function to activate on closing the laptop lid?
• Did you check if the laptop goes to sleep when not connected to external monitor and lid closed?

To respond to your questions

(1) I have set the sleep function to operate on laptop lid close only when the laptop is on battery power. When it is plugged in I have set it to do not sleep ever.

(2) I have tested that it does *not* go to sleep when I the laptop is plugged in and I close the laptop lid

Further information:

(1) When I first turned the laptop on I attached it to the monitor and closed the lid. It then ran successfully for approximately an hour before hibernating.

(2) I then restarted the system, external monitor plugged in, lid closed and it went to hibernate after approximately 2 minutes.

 

When close lid during shutting down, PC go into sleep.

Hello,
I've got a problem (or a feature ? Not so sure) that when I finish my work, I shutting down my laptop, while waiting it to be shut down, I close the lid.
The problem is when I close the lid, the laptop go into sleep mode, and when I back to work, I open the lid to press the power button and it resume the 'shut down' process.
This hasn't happen before, any suggestion ? Many thanks
