Can I delete the System Reserved partition? I have both the Legacy System Reserved...

    Background Info:

Today, I uninstalled Linux Mint by removing its partition, but my PC keeps trying to boot to "ubuntu" from the BIOS. After some investigation, I found out that I have both the old Legacy & new UEFI partitions for booting on my SSD.

Since I recently changed from BIOS to UEFI before installing Linux Mint, I think I should delete the System Reserved partition. Since it contains bootloaders, I think getting rid of it might stop the PC from trying to boot to "ubuntu". I'm worried it'll just cause more problems, though. I have an installation media USB handy, but I don't know if that will help me here.

    About my PC:

    • HP EliteDesk 800 G1

    • Core i7 4770

    • Gigabyte GTX 1650 OC Low Profile 4G

    • 1TB SSD w/ OS & aforementioned partitions & empty 1TB HDD

    • Windows 10 Pro

A big thank you in advance to anyone who can help me out! If you need more info., let me know.

    :)

  2. Deleting system reserve

Using a third party tool, it suggests that there are no consequences for deleting the 16MB system reserve and that this will allow the EFI system partition to be increased beyond its current 100MB (lack of size has hindered standard updates of Windows
10). I have over 300 MB of unallocated disk space that I can add to the EFI system partition.

Recovery Partition vs System Reserved Partition

Thanks for all the info guys.

Both original & target SSD's are listed as MBR as opposed to UEFI. I may have created a partition unknowingly in getting the original/new unformatted drive recognized, but I don't recall taking any steps that Windows did not step me through.

Not that an upgrade to WIN 10 Pro is contemplated, but I suspect that having no System Reserved partition will not allow that to happen, after seeing how the original WIN 10 upgrade created a problem for some WIN 7 users that had a smaller 100mb vs 500mb System Reserved partition.

    Reserve System E

I checked the recycle bin there is no system reserved E listed. I was on a page that showed me the stuff in my system ( please know that I don't know what words to write ). The menu listed reserved system E. I right clicked on it and got another menu with several options. One of them was to "unallocate" it. Since I had previously seen a solid red line on system reserved E and kept getting pop up messages that system reserved E was full and no more space was available, I decided to "unallocate" it thinking that would free up space. Instead the action , I guess, Uninstalled it.
