  1. Keyboard and mouse only partially working?

I’m working from home with a company laptop. In order to use my laptop, today I plugged my HDMI cord from monitor 1 into it, as well as my HDMI to USB-C cord from monitor 2 into it. Then, I plugged my USB hub, which has my keyboard, mouse, speakers, and webcam into it. Everything worked fine.

Now, I want to use my desktop. I plugged the monitors back into my desktop, as well as the hub. Upon turning the desktop on, they keyboard and mouse aren’t working. They light up fine, but none of the inputs are working properly. The only thing that is working is the volume dial on the keyboard; I can see the volume slider popping up. My computer doesn’t even have the mouse cursor, however, my computer is recognizing the mouse. I know this because one of my mouse buttons is programmed to be Alt+F4, and clicking that brings up the “Shutdown” option (this is not on on-board memory). The speakers (also plugged into the hub) work fine as well.

I tried plugging the keyboard and mouse directly into the computer, and the same thing happened. Did a few restarts trying with other ports, but nothing changes anything.

What I know/have tested: - all USB ports work fine - keyboard and mouse work fine - keyboard is still sending volume signals - mouse is still sending some signals - USB hub works fine - a different keyboard and mouse does not change anything - although keyboard lights up, caps, num, and scroll locks do not indicate light when pressed

This all seems to point to it being a software issue, not hardware, but I can’t for the life of me figure out what that issue is. Does anyone have any idea?

  2. keyboard and mouse not working

    Hi Chrystal,

For us to properly isolate the issue with your keyboard and mouse, we would like to know the following:

    • Were there any changes made on your computer prior to the issue (e.g., updates, software installation)?
    • Are you using a wired or wireless keyboard and mouse?
    • Have you tried using a different keyboard and mouse? If yes, how was it?
    • Have you tried using your keyboard and mouse to another computer? If yes, what is the result?
    • To make sure that we have not missed on anything, what troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

As an initial troubleshooting, we suggest that you try updating your keyboard and mouse drivers to resolve the issue. You may also check and follow the troubleshooting steps in this
    article.

We look forward to your response.
