  1. Can't index and search network drive

    A z drive exists which is a share on a QNAP NAS.

    On other Windows PC's, when a user searches in File Explorer they get results for files on that NAS share.

    On this specific Windows PC, they get minimal results from the NAS Share. It's as if indexing isn't complete.

    I've been to Indexing options, and there's no way to add the Z:\ drive to be an indexed location. Even when I click "show all locations", it shows C:\, D:\ and Outlook, but no Z:\.

    Again, in Indexing options, I've re-built the index, but only some results are showing when searching the network share.

    Can anyone give any hints on how to add a network share as a location to be indexed?

    Search Not Indexing Optical Drive

    Thanks,

    • When you mentioned D Drive, are you pertaining to a partition or a separate external drive? - D Drive = Solid State Drive; 1 of 2 internal drives (the other being an optical drive);
    • Were you able to check if indexing was already completed? - Indexing completed on each attempt of rectification;
    • In the meantime, we suggest that you run the Search and Indexing troubleshooter - Done prior to posting; useless! It does not find any problems.

  3. Search Not Indexing Optical Drive

    Hi,

    There could be a possibility of a corruption in search and indexing. It's also possible that the indexing was not completed yet that's why it's not showing the missing files. To isolate your concern, we'd like to ask the following:

    • When you mentioned D Drive, are you pertaining to a partition or a separate external drive?
    • Were you able to check if indexing was already completed?

    In the meantime, we suggest that you run the Search and Indexing troubleshooter and check if it helps to sort out the issue. Go to Control Panel. In the search box, type
    troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Click
    View all, and then select Search and Indexing. Follow the onscreen instructions to run the troubleshooter.

    Indexing Network Drives is not working / Trying to Add Network Drive to Indexing option is not there

    Hello,

    I am running into an issue with a few of our windows 10 computers. When they are trying to search a network drive, the search take a very long time (some times does not even search) to search and even if it does search, it is not getting everything I need.
    I can be in the directory of where the file is and search for it and it will take 10-15 minutes before it shows me the result. It will take twice as long if I enable content searching (which I understand takes longer but 20-30 minutes it a very long time).

    • I have tried reindexing. This however only does the C drive and not the network drives. When I want to add the network drives, I am not getting an option to add them. I am not even able to select the computer in Network.
    • I have tried running a system file repair in cmd. Comes back with no issues.
    • I have tried running a system health restore in cmd. Everything is okay there.
    • I have reset the WinCatalog through cmd. Still having issues.
    • I right clicked on the network drive and made sure that "Allow this drive to be index" was check. I even unchecked it and recheck it so it will apply to everything.
    • I right clicked on the network drive and check "Allow Available Offline" and let that go through its process.
    • I stopped the Windows Search service, started it, made sure that it was set to auto and even restarted it. Still having the issue

    I have tried these steps at least twice now and after each step, I would reboot the computer.

    Is there anything else that I can do to get the search in network drive function to work properly again. Or is there a way that I can add the network drives to the indexing. I have tried third party programs that will search for files but the main thing
    we need is the content search. I know content search takes awhile to run but on windows 7 computers, it only takes like 3 minutes to search and find the file with the content in it.
