Windows 10: my usb printer stopped working after microsoft windows 10 update. I reinstalled software...

I really appreciate your help.

I have a HP old but worked CP1525NW printer.

When the printer wouldn't print I did all the usual stuff. Unplugged, rebooted, ect.

I noticed that the printer had stopped working about the time other things stopped working related to a recent windows 10 update. I tried un-in stalling software and reinstalling. Now during the installation process it seems the printer is now undiscoverable. The HP printer software won't complete the installation process. In settings the printer is undiscoverable.


I feel the usb from windows is the new problem. I of course tried other usb ports. I don't have another computer to plug it into easily.


Some say that the new update will stop some usb printers from working.


Should I roll back the update next? Any ideas?

All Printers Stopped Working After Windows 10 Update

All Printer Drivers Became Inaccessible or Stopped Working after a Windows Update:

OS Edition WIN 10 Home; Version 1803; Build 17134.48; Installed 05/12/18

Since last Windows 10 update on 5/12 all my printers stopped working.

When I try to print from an application a full list of printers appears. Some printers (e.g. Microsoft Print to PDF) is greyed out and cannot be selected, others can be selected but none works.

Settings/ Printer Scanners Does not show any printer. When I tried Add a printer, no printer was detected including my USB connected HP Printer.

Device manager shows no printers.

There is no place to select any printer and update driver.

All the missing printer drivers are listed in the Setting///Print Server Properties/Drivers

Printer troubleshooter detects all the printers but all it does is to allow me to make any printer my default. Still nothing works.

I tried all the Microsoft published fixes that I found. Nothing works.

I reinstalled my HP printer using HP app. It is now showing on tools/printers and on Device Manager.

I tried to manually install Microsoft Print to PDF. It is not listed in the printer driver list for Microsoft.

HELP is greatly appreciated.

 

USB 2.0 printer won't work in Win 10/USB 3.0

A couple more suggestions:
First, check to see if your motherboard manufacturer has a newer USB controller driver to install. If so, install it.

Second, try reinstalling all the USB devices:
Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus Controllers > Right click on each device listed underneath and choose Uninstall (you could leave anything related to USB 3.0 alone) > after you've cleared the list, restart Windows and they will all be reinstalled again.

See if the printer will work after either of those.

Also: unplug the USB cable to that printer before doing any procedures, then plug it in after Windows is back up running.

 

[Solved] Windows 10 keeps reinstalling KB3119142

I noticed quite some time ago that KB3119142 (Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Update 4 Redistributable Package) kept reinstalling itself for some reason. At least once daily. Sometimes up to several times a day. I just ignored it. It didn't seem to be doing any harm. And I figured they'd eventually fix it. Well...days turned into weeks, weeks into months, with no end to the problem in sight. It dragged on unsolved for at least the last few months. Literally reinstalling itself hundreds of(at least a hundred, felt like more) times in that period of time.

So I finally googled it a couple days ago. And just got around to fixing it today. Which appears to have worked. And it couldn't have been easier to do. I feel so stupid to have let it intimidate me for so long.*Oops!
