Back button in Explorer moves current folder to bottom of view

This issue is driving me insane, but it's not easy to parse into a simple search.

Since I first got a mouse with a back button in the Windows 95 era, my habit in Explorer—when hunting and pecking for a file or just generally checking folders' contents—is to look in a folder by selecting it, then—if file isn't there or once contents seen—I hit the mouse back button and possibly use context menu to glean further info about said folder. Obvious, right?

Until I installed Windows 10, after hitting my mouse's or Explorer's "back" button, if I hadn't moved my mouse the folder I just entered would still be directly under my cursor i.e. window view wouldn't re-scroll, enabling an immediate use of context menu. This has been the expected behavior for, as stated, nearly 25 years.

Now in Windows 10, when I hit the mouse or Explorer back buttons, the folder I was just in will instead be automatically scrolled to thebottom of the window. This is beyond maddening because as any non-basic computer user knows, habituation is a significant part of computer usage. Microsoft has recently seen fit to decimate much of the habituation they themselves established, and apparently this among the litany!

I thought if I gave it some time I could get used to this… change. But after nearly a year of using Win10, it has become clear that I cannot adapt to this new paradigm. Is thereany chance there is a registry key I can toggle to fix this? A small piece of software? Anything?!

    :)

  3. "we are unable to display this view" message from tab in Internet explorer 11

    Hi Thomas,

As there is no Open Button in the error display Window, I suggest you to click on the Right Arrow button in the bottom left corner and check if it helps or displays the full error message.

I suggest you to run the Internet Explorer Performance troubleshooter by following the steps provided below:

    • Type “Troubleshooting” in the search box and press Enter.
    • Click on “View All” in the top left corner.
    • Click on “Internet Explorer Performance” and follow the prompts for troubleshooting.

Hope this helps. Keep us posted on the status for further assistance.

Back button in Explorer moves current folder to bottom of view

Adding "list" and even other buttons to the explorer top bottom right

    Expand File Explorer's Ribbon/View,
right click on desired entries and "Add to Quick Access Toolbar"

    or:

right click an empty space within an Explorer window and go to View

    or:

    Alt+P for Preview Pane

    or:

press and hold Ctrl while spinning mouse wheel.........
