What's preventing a successful sign-in using my MS account under Windows Settings after I...

I typically sign-in to Windows 10 using my local account.

I purchased a security key over a year ago and I successfully set it up with the Edge browser. I do NOT have a problem with using the key to sign in to my MS account from Edge. This is NOT the issue.

Prior to ever setting up the security key, I used to be able use my local account to sign-inand then if I chose to, I could sign-in to with my MS account by going to Start>Settings>Accounts. Now I can't.

Here are the steps that are performed in an attempt to sign in using my MS account:

    1. I sign-in to Windows 10 using my local account. I donot proceed to open Edge to sign -in with my MS account.

    2. I go to Start>Settings>Accounts and click on the link under “Your Info” where it says: “Sign-in with a Microsoft Account instead”

    3. I enter my MS account email and PW. Refer to the screenshot of the sign-in dialogue box. Typically when signing in from Edge, a link is available to click on that says: “Sign in with a security key”. This link does not appear here.

    4. I have two step verification set up. So the next dialogue box that appears asks to enter a code from the authenticatorapp which I set up long ago.

    5. After entering the verification code from the authentication app, I’m asked to enter my

“Current Windows password”. Refer to the screenshot.

I don’t know who came up with the term "Windows password"

    6. So I enter my MS account password for the "Windows password" and I can’t sign-in. Referto the screen shot

I don't know what's causing this message: "the password I entered for my device is incorrect".

It's been carefully entered many times.

I even thought of changing the PW under my MS account in Edge. My account settings in Edge allowed me to successfully change it, but after re-attempting to sign-in from Start>Settings>Accounts, it's still not recognized.

Settings can't be opened using the built-in administrator account

    Hello,
Unfortunately I have the same issue as Dabz from upgrading win7 to win10.
I've tried opening settings using all the suggested methods and it will not load using my account with Administrator access nor the built-in Administrator profile. I also tried other methods not listed such as using Run. Control panel is just a stepping stone to add users in Settings.
I'm also having explorer.exe issues, which I believe is preventing Settings from loading.
Using cmd (Admin) I successfully created a new user profile [and granted admin access also using cmd (Admin)], however win10 will not allow this account to log on. win10 does not list this new user within control panel but it does in the start menu. win10 will not allow to log in or switch to the new account via the start menu either.
I can access settings in Safe Mode but this will not allow me to create a new account.
Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

Microsoft account sign in option missing

I have a local account with a sign in password for boot up.

After a recent major MS update, I no longer have an option to sign in at boot up using my Microsoft account.

When I go to Settings > Accounts > Sign in options ... this is what I see.

Any suggestions to resovle this and restore MS account sign in?

If I go to Email app accounts > Add an account ... A new window flashes on the screen and disappears.

Mail app only working when signed in under Admin account

Upgraded from Windows 7 about two months ago, but this just started a few days ago.
Tried to read my email and found that I could not use the mail app when signed in under my User account. (previously worked fine.)
If I sign in under my Admin account, the mail app works normally.
I've tried deleting and reinstalling the mail/calendar app, and now I don't even have the icons to launch them- not even listed on the start menu, except when using the Admin account.
Is there another way to launch or repair the app?
    Any suggested fixes?
Don't want to keep having to sign in as Admin just to read my email.
    Thanks!
