Windows 10: Private VDI setup...any easy solution?

Hi guys,

my setup looks like:

- an always-on desktop NUC i7 32GB RAM running Win10Pro

- a good laptop also running Win10Pro

- a work laptop running Win10Pro

- a less powerful NUC i3 attached to the TV for media consumption on a big screen

I use the NUCi7 most of the time, and when I need to do some serious work but not next to the NUCi7, I usually RDP into it from any of the other computers. If I am home I do it quick, if away, I connect to my VPN server at home first, which then allows me to RDP into the NUC.

I am getting an iPad Pro to be even more mobile, and was thinking to scale up my setup.

Can I use my i3 NUC, which is ethernet connected to my router, to provide VDI's which I can open from the iPad or any other computer and that do not require me to connect via VPN (security concern here)? What do I need to start?

I have been googling "Poor man VDI", "VDI for private users" etc, but it returns only biz oriented solutions, whereas I really just want to have a Windows desktop available at the touch of an icon from my brand new iPad Pro.

Fun games on private servers?

I'm watching a friend play WoW on a private server right now and it seems decently fun. What other games or MMOs are amusing to play on private servers that change the gameplay sometimes? I wanted to try FFXI but apparently there aren't any or they're rare. Any suggestions?

Clearing (and restoring) Private data


Hi I have some Questions about „cleaning“ up or removing personal/private data & configuration from a Windows 10 PC.

It is about a PC that should be sent to the Vendor to get repaired.
It is not my PC but from a friend.
Usually in such a case I would create an image from the System and reset the OS to factory settings to wipe the data/settings.
But this time I don’t have enough space (and will not have time for it) (Don’t need suggestions for Imaging).

The normal Data (documents, pictures …) are regularly saved / backup so not needed to be saved additionally.
The goal would be removing / backing up the personal Data (in a fast and space saving way) to have them removed and make it possible to put them back, but not deleting /removing the installed Programs, applications and Games (Win32).

From my experience with Windows 7 or Older PCs I would also:

• Browser: backup Profile and clean it (Easy to restore)
• Mail Program: backup Profile and clean it (Easy to restore)
• Change User password (easy to restore)

But as for Windows 10 there are some new … implications about the

• connected Microsoft account
• and the Apps

How to deal with them?
How to remove / disconnect them in a way I can restore afterwards again?
