  1. Help! Apps, Settings, and browser randomly open by themselves in Windows 10

Every morning I wake up my HP all-in-one desktop has 1 multiple File Explorer windows open, 2 webcam app open the webcam isn't on because I have it set to "always ask" before opening and sometimes 3 one or two Chrome default browser instances open and 4 Windows Personalization Setting window open.

Throughout the workday, as I work on my laptop stationed in front of the desktop, a file explorer will randomly open as I'm sitting there.

One last odd behavior is the Screensaver. I have it set to run after 5 minutes and for the screen to shut off after 30 minutes. However, all through the night the screensaver is always on. The screen never goes to sleep.

I have it set to run I have run every basic troubleshooter Windows 10 has to offer and nothing to note came of it, with the exception of Power Settings being reset to default settings. I went in and changed the hard disk to turn off after "0" minutes. I run my backups to an external drive at 0200.

I keep all Windows updates up-to-date. Drivers are up-to-date best to my knowledge.

I have Windows Defender running along with Bitdefender. I have run full systems checks with both and never had anything malicious reported. I downloaded and ran Malwarebytes with the same clean results.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

    Cannot open mail app settings

OK, my next suggestion was going to be uninstalling Mail and Calendar and reinstalling from the Windows Store. You can have a go at this by following these steps.

    1. Open the Start menu, type Windows PowerShell.
    2. Right click on the Windows PowerShell and select Run as administrator.
    3. Enter the below command to remove the Mail and calendar app.

    get-appxpackage *microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps* | remove-appxpackage

After performing the above steps, install the Mail and calendar app from the Windows Store.

Hope this helps, you will, of course, have to add you accounts back again.

Help! Apps, Settings, and browser randomly open by themselves in Windows 10

Mail app will not open on 10041.

    Hello Adam,

This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it. Help! Apps, Settings, and browser randomly open by themselves in Windows 10 :)

In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

    • Open powershell as administrator
    • Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
    • Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)
