Windows 10: DS4Windows and the Windows 10 PS4 controller compatibility issue

This has been an issue that I've been actually questioning myself. The PS4 controller should work on Windows 10 as if it was a regular joypad (that is not an Xbox controller). However, I'm having an issue that the buttons are like what I had when I tried out XCloud:



The X buttonon the PS4 controller is X on a Xbox 360 controller. The Circle is the A. The Triangle is a B. And R2 is now pause apparently.



I've no clue what is going on. If I use DS4Windows, the inputs are all translated properly. But if I don't use DS4Windows, the inputs are screwed. On top of that, both inputs from DS4Windows AND Windows 10 combine together into being a mess. This was right after I cleaned my PC from the SCP client drivers.

PS4 on Windows 10 with DS4Windows Troubleshoot


I am trying to use my PS4 controller on my PC with the program DS4Windows. Initially, it worked perfectly, but something got screwed up and now it doesn't. When I plug it in or try to connect it through bluetooth, it registers as "Unknown USB Device (Configuration Descriptor Request Failed)". Before, it would register as "XBox Controller", and it would be given its own menu in the device manager. I've also double checked the controller with my lap top using DS4Windows and it works properly, so I'm pretty sure this is an issue with the the installation or the driver assignments on the PC being screwed up somehow. I have uninstalled the program and reinstalled it, and it doesn't fix the problem. I've also uninstalled and installed the driver (Virtual Bus Driver) using ScpDriver, but that doesn't work either.

Any ideas how to fix this? I was going to try to reinstall the drivers for the XBox controller that Windows 10 comes with and then try reinstalling the program, but I'm not sure how I would do that.

Before we think that the device is defective, let's try this procedure:

Enable Hide DS4 Controller Option:

In some cases, detection of the controller may be hindered by the system recognizing the physical device as both a D-pad controller (Xbox controller) and DualShock 4 controller, effectively causing a dual set of inputs that can confuse DS4 Windows to no end.

The problem is even more pronounced when it comes to playing games as the game detects two controllers rather than one. Fortunately, DS4 Windows has a useful feature that allows the user to determine whether to hide the DS4 controller or not.

Open up DS4 Windows.

Click on the ‘’Settings’’ tab among the option running horizontally near the top of the app window.

Next, tick the ‘’Hide DS4 controller’’ box. It is the first option at the top of the list.

Click on the ‘’Controllers’’ tab.

Plug the DualShock 4 controller back into the PC.

The device will appear in the app.

ds4windows not connecting ps4 controller

I tried to do it on my dad's pc and it still didn't even show up o his devices and printers and also didn't work with ds4windows downloaded, but it doesn't make sense because this controller is brand new just ordered it on black Friday.
