Hey yall! I have a problem with my pc and couldn't figure out what to do. Here's the thing:

I upgraded my pc from Windows 7 to Windows 10 via the site and everything was fine. My pc was working and so were all my USBs. But, because I forgot to wipe my files when I first downloaded it, I decided to do it again, and wipe my files this time, via the windows settings.

Everything went fine, except during the reinstallment of windows 10 I shut my pc off because the screen went black and was unresponsive. I know I shouldn't have done that but it's happened.

Now that I start up my pc, I get this error message: "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart your computer, and then restart the installation."

It's prompting me to click OK, but I can't. My keyboard and mouse (keyboard is USB mouse is wireless with a USB as a connector since my pc doesn't have bluetooth, but I've tried my wired usb mouse and that didn't work either) both shut off as windows starts. I can get into the setup and boot settings just fine and my keyboard works like normal until Windows starts.

If anyone knows what to do I'd love to hear it, but keep in mind I can't actually access my pc and the only settings I have available to me are the setup and boot settings, F8 and all the other keys wont work.

Here's the things I've tried already:

    • F8 + shift/alt F8 to try and get into recovery mode, but it just takes me to boot settings

    • plugged out all my usbs and plugged only my keyboard back in in all of the different ports

    • turned usb controller off in the bios, then after it didn't work back on for other settings

    • put USB Device as first place in my boot sequence, the order is now USB Device, on-board or USB floppy drive, Onboard SATA hard drive, my pc, on-board or USB cd-rom drive

    • checked all the USB ports and all of them are enabled

    • turned fast boot off so it wouldn't skip over anything

My BIOS is from 2008 so it's old, but it was working fine before even with windows 10 on it.

If anyone knows what I can do or knows what's wrong I'd love to hear it, thank you!

Lost default photo viewer after profile rebuild

Thanks Brink. I've tried those steps before i started searching Google. After the profile rebuild i don't have the Photo app listed to choose to make it default in either the system settings for default apps or the Open With option.

I can't even find it doing a search. Seems to have been removed somehow with the profile rebuild, which doesn't make sense.

Might be helpful to list what i've done No answers found yet :) I've done the open with check, the choose default program in the system menu, tried that in device manager default programs also. I've checked the programs and features Turn windows features on/off and it's not listed there (never thought it was but that was a suggestion), searched the MS Store, it's not listed there either.

I don't like playing in the registry unless i have defined steps and haven't found anything for this yet, just the Win7 version like in my OP.

Hard drive migration problem: Windows gave a strange name to my HD

    1. Is there important data on this Hitachi disk ?
    2. Is it recognized in the BIOS ?
    3. If the answer to #1 is NO and #2 is YES go to step #4
    4. Open Admin Command and type:
      diskpart
list disk ======> Make a note on disk # of the Hitachi disk
select disk # =====> # found from above command
      clean
      exit.

If the answer is NO from step #2 above. Take the Hitachi disk out of the enclosure, open the case and connect directly to one of the sata port and reboot.
